If France can feed their Chickens kitchen waste why can't we in the U.K.?

Well, as everyone knows the French dont pay much attention to what the EC say.
They just sign up to everything and then ignore it.

As they make most of the rules, along with Germany, I guess thats OK to do.

 

It's not very often I publicly admit to agreeing with the french, but on this occasion, I think they've got a most excellent plan.

If I had chickens, I tell you now, I'd flout the law and feed them certain types of kitchen scraps. As long as common sense prevails (no meat, nothing that will harm the chucks etc, as long as the chucks get a balanced diet) I can't see a problem.

 

Next thing the EU will be saying is that you can't feed Vine Weevils to your mouses.

 

I think i've mentioned this before but ....if it's good enough for me it's good enough for my 'girls'.....if DEFRA think i'm going to bin perfectly good yorkshire puds and cauliflower cheese then they can go and whistle.....

 

Yes, totally out of order unless you do things like grow/buy cabbages for your hens, give them the outer leaves that they like the best and you (not your hens) eat the 'waste' bit in the middle - then it's 'legal' IYSWIM.

 

I think this just goes to show DEFRA is living in cloud cookoo land.
They cant enforce it, and make themselves look stupid applying such stupidity to the small keeper of livestock.

I agree, maybe commercially it might have some common sense, but they need to come down to earth and apply some of that common sense to the small bloke in the street.

Naturally commercial poultry farms need keeping an eye on but little old me with a few chooks would be impossible to police.....
So just incase anyone from Defra is watching...My chooks aren't given kitchen waste...thier meals a specially prepared...as for them eating meat well i'm guilty as charged but has anyone tried stopping a chicken eating slugs?

 

If DEFRA are really interested in animal health maybe they should take a look at live animal exports.
Totally unnecessary trade in these days.

What are they doing about calves being exported to our friends in Europe where they used in such a way that is illegal in the UK?

Do they care? they dont give a **** just as long as the farmers make their profits.

 

Slugs - have you seen the wild chase that starts when one gets a mouse? (a very good reason not to use poison near your run).

 

Yes Scrungee...the first time i saw it i stupidly tried to get the mouse off themnot a chance...i couldn't believe it , i swear you could hear the chickens growling...next timei looked the mouse had been trampled ....flat as a pancake it was...you live and learn...
