Hosepipe ban

I phoned Anglian Water to ask what they did with the £700 million profit they made in 2010 and to ask if I would get a rebate on my water rates since they are providing an interrupted service. Of course, the phone rang rang rang until it just went dead. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

All joking apart: if you are on water rates your contract forbids the use of a hose; period. So they aren't denying you any supply. If you have paid some "extra licence" to use a hose then I would expect that to be refunded. If you were on a water meter then you would only pay for what you actually used, so no refund there either.

The £700 million profit is, as I understand it, repaying the loans for the improvements they have made (as they have chosen to raise money by rights issue to shareholders, rather then just borrowing it from a bank). The water companies are currently spending £3 for every £2 of profit they make, so the borrowing is growing each year, and the profits have to in order to repay that form of "debt"

Thanks Kristen, I am not clear or convinced especially regarding dividends to shareholders and annual above inflation dividend ratios amongst other things as I've seen a number of varying (and often difficult to understand pieces of info) and have written to them directly for a full account from the horses mouth so to speak. We shall see ...

 

I too would like to know a definitive answer on that one, so I look forward to hearing what your findings are.

Businesses that operate at a domestic property can use a hosepipe in the course of their work, where this is done as a service to customers. As you are a Landscape Gardener you fit into this category.

Please be aware, once you have done your work at the property the customers living there can not use a hosepipe. You can always use a hosepipe yourself at a domestic customer's house where you are offering them a service.

however, at the moment, Cambridge water (who I fall under) don't have a hosepipe ban according to their website ....

I have a few clients who fall under Anglian water

 

" That's interesting" she said trying to stifle a laugh"does that mean I can do yours if you do mine?" Provide a watering service - for a fee.That is !! If we both charge each other 2/6d do we keep on the right side of the law???? Time to strike a deal with my next door neighbour methinks.....
