What age do you need to drive an electric vehicle? (I thought it was over 65)

My money saving tip: Raid your Mam's and friends gardens (with their permission of course) saves a fortune on new plants - apart from going to ASDA and buying 2 Clematis for £5.00, although this was bought as my Easter pressie off my mam :WINK1: - she then preceded to raid her garage and found a lovely metal arch for my clematis. She's great! I think i've saved about £40.00 in a week! :dancy: I will, of course, give something back, as i am growing plenty flower/vegetable seeds to pass around.
      :)

Have they changed the law then?

Last I knew the criteria for a vehicle that a 14 year old may ride on the public highways used to be that the vehicle:

        * Is electric and carries no flammable or hazardous fuel.
        * Has a single motor not exceeding 1.5HP (that's roughly 1kW in new money)
        * Has a maximum speed of 15mph

If it does 25mph then it is a moped:
        * Engine power not exceeding 4.5HP
        * Maximum speed not exceeding 30mph
        * Minimum legal age to ride on public highways, 16 years (plus CBT required nowadays).

Of course the law could have changed without me knowing, its a long time since its mattered to me so I must admit I haven't been keeping an eye on it.

        I know .....

my 'nosey' neighbour who always reports me to the environmental ageny for smoke pollution (every time I have a BBQ) has already raised her eyebrow, .....

she peeped like a meercat through her curtains when it was delivered and assembled, and I have no doubts that she has already tried to snitch to the DVLA ..... as my daughter tested it up and down the road (without a helmut) ....

these are the lastest electric bicycles, that look like the real thing ..... girls in Cambridge used to favour the pashley dutch bikes, but now, they are all abuzz about the new electric bikes

I am (and will always) be nervous when she rides (as I used to ride motorbikes myself, when I was younger)

However, she is very determined to own one, and had saved up her own money (she is full time at College and works part time at a hairdresser) .... 2 weeks ago, she bought an electric scooter without telling me, but it was one of the larger that needs a licenced rider, and MOT and insurance

I clamped the wheel with a D-Lock and forbid her to ride .... I then sold the bike for a good profit, and still tried to talk her out of it .... never worked, so, I ended up buying this one which is aimed for the younger

here's the law: (it says if it is restricted to 15mph) .... this one has a 'secret' boost button which makes it go 5 mph faster :dunno:

        http://www.atob.org.uk/electric-motorbikes-scooters/electric-motorbike-scooter-licensing-laws/

        snip:
If an electric motorbike is restricted to 15mph, has a motor of 250 watts output or less, weighs less than 40kg and has pedals, it is legally an electric bicycle and can be ridden by anyone aged 14 or under. They require no registration documents, number plates, tax disc or MOT. The rider does not need to be in possession of a licence. These bikes are not listed on this page.

I suppose they don't make toys like they used to?

I make plant labels from old 2kg Stork white plastic boxes*. I cut them up and write on them with a PILOT super colour marker. It writes on anything.
*Our local Deli gives them to me instead of chucking them out. Also, you can fit 10 toilet roll middles in each one , fill up with MCP and grow things that like a bit of TLC and no initial root disturbance.

I get 16 from each ice cream tub and at 2p each (1.5p each if buying by the 1,000) for labels it's quite a saving when growing 1,000s of plants. Never got the hang of making them from milk bottles as many people suggest.

I hope you don't bin your liquid washing up bottle after the final squeeze. There's another 5 daysworth in there if you swill it around with a little water!!

Also, I never throw the plastic sleeves of junk mail. They are useful to keep food stuffs in and fresh. Wash 'em out first if you are a bit "delicate" !!

Now if I did not suffer dementia, and could remember the correct name

You must not use those plastics for food they a cancergenous
I only remember from brewing beer, using a plactic bucket you have to have special plastic that is for food products

What Is Food Grade Plastic? The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requires that plastics used in food packaging be of greater purity than plastics used for non-food packaging. This is commonly referred to as food grade plastic. Plastics used to package pharmaceuticals are held to an even higher standard than food grade.

Food grade plastic does not contain dyes or recycled plastic deemed harmful to humans. However, this does not mean that food grade plastic cannot contain recycled plastic. The FDA has detailed regulations concerning recycled plastics in food packaging.

Another aspect of food grade plastic is matching the appropriate type of plastic to the food in question. Foods that are highly acidic or that contain alcohol or fats can leach plastic additives from the packaging or container into the food. As a result, you should only use plastic containers that are FDA approved for the particular type of food the plastic will come into contact with.

Finally, it should be noted that a plastic container can no longer be considered food grade if it has been used to store non-food items like chemicals, paint, magazines or detergent.

            Cor Jack,
do the food police share your house with you? If we all starting getting cancer panicky over this and that -we'd never get out of bed! Then who would mow the lawn?
            I'll take my chances thankyou,

my elect bike is only allowed 15 mph, but I'm allowed to assist it, by peddling ,to over that speed. Good luck with the nosey neighbour, we have a horror like that too.. : )
