Cheers for the Fuchsia lesson Scotkat .:blue thumb: I am trying more fuchsias this year , just planted a basket with 5 , all the same variety as recommended - now cant find the labels :doh:So not a clue on the variety name.
I must try growing a standard next year ( too much on this year ) What variety would you say is the easiest for this ?

        Your welcome Harry

Looking forward to seeing your basket progress grow Harry.

I do have a soft spot for Checkerboard or Heidi Ann but any bush fuchsia will do for growing standards.

You could make a start thsi year growing your fuchsia whip .

And if you have somewhere to overwinter then it will be ready for growing next year.

I'm a little old fashioned when it comes to Fuchsia - they should be nice and simple.
            F.magelenica is one of the best;
            The standard form.....

            The variety Hawkshead........

The third F.magellenica that I grow is the dwarf variety David..............

The Triphylla group produce Thalia, another garden favourite of mine. Perform well in full sun, which allows me to treat it as an annual and grow it in a pot.

As far as the more showy ones go, Blacky is about my limit...............

The hybrid Satellite is an interesting novelty Fuchsia that I grew last year...........

My absolute favourite is my F.perscandens. It's a native New Zealand species.
I fear that the winter may have claimed it though:sad:

My last Fuchsia is another New Zealand species - F.procumbens...........

Easy from seed (if your patient), I know of people in Scotland growing them outdoors in a sheltered spot.
