ANOTHER AMBLE AROUND

We've had power in the greenhouse since 1976 and never used it for lighting or heating. The only things that use it are the propagator and the fan.

 

Well, I've got the know how and the kit to put in power to the Green House, it's just that I haven't, yet, come to the conclusion that I would use it. My heated propagators I keep in the Kitchen as there's plenty of room for them and as I've got three roof ventilators and two side ventilators in the Green House, I can't see me putting a fan in there.

My greenhouse has a lot of roof and side vents but it still gets very hot in there so, in 1976, I fitted a two way extractor. It's thermostatically controlled and I've found it keeps the greenhouse cooler by having it blow air into the greenhouse then having it sucking it out. It's a standard 6" ventaxia and is still the original

 

That sound's good, Shiney. I like buying things that will last longer than I will, gives me that feeling of value for money!! To be honest, I haven't had a problem of overheating in the Green House yet in the past years according to my min/max thermometer. It would only take a couple of hours at the most to do the job but at the moment I'm still not convinced it's worth the effort in my case.

 

Hi Joolz, I've just gone back on this thread and found your earlier one, sorry about that. I see you've got the habit of having an early morning cup of tea in the garden too. My Astibles are in the Bog Garden next to the pond, and like yours, are waking up along with the Ferns. And we've both got frog spawn in the ponds

Have I got any Campanula seeds on the go?? I've got so many on the go I had to check!!.......but No I haven't sown any Campanula this year. Are yours the tall variety or the dwarf?? I have the same problem with my sown Hardy Perennial Geraniums, the White Flowered ones have germinated, while the Black Flowered ones haven't...as yet!! I guess it's a question of patience and crossed fingers!!

 

I'm not criticising the new software but there are some aspects of it that I miss and it does appear harder to track down old threads....or maybe it's just us

I love Blue Geraniums but just don't like the Pink ones I'm afraid. My Asters, Monardas, Cosmos, etc are showing nicely now. My Primulas will take longer but I'm not in a rush as I've got enough on my hands as it is.

I've still got a bucket full of Tadpoles so I'll wait until they get to a reasonable size before I put them into the pond, hopefully big enough to survive the fish."

I'll probably get some Campanula seeds from Seedaholic next time!!

I think you were right not to buy the Primulas, Joolz, should have been signs of flowers somewhere. I found once you have Aqueliga's in the garden they self seed and you always have them!! Have a good time at Thornebys.

They are, Ziggy, Scarlet Emperor to be precise. I don't grow vegetable normally, but my sister in Nantwich likes them so I sow and grow them on for her to grow on further. Unfortunately, my sister has decided to move back to Wem in Shropshire in the near future, so it was looking like I was going to be inundated with them. Luckily. a friend has found out and booked them so that's one problem solved.
