A sonic "bang" is not a bang, it's more of a boom and sometime a double boom, I heard a few while serving on a Lightning Squadron and the sound is quite distinctive. I didn't hear the "bang" but since nobody as described the noise as a BOOM then I would take it that the MOD just came up with the standard answer to down play the excitement.:snork:

We'd know it if we had heard it down here in Zyderland. Both concord routes used to go super over the Bristol & English channel, if you were in the middle you could hear it coming from both sides.

The Tornadoes were responding to a helicopter distress call apparently. Other half just heard it on the news.

            Further update.

The planes were Typhoons and they were responding to what turned out to be an accidental emergency signal from a helicopter pilot. The planes were scrambled from RAF Coningsby.

Thats what the MOD are saying and it was a false call or on wrong frequency, but what im asking is what type of emergency calls do them planes usually respond to,how could they save a helicopter anyway? wouldnt intercepting a highjacked plane be more of an emergency to them? :dunno:x
