I always look forward to certain plants flowering more than some others, [well, everbodys got favourites haven't they?:snork:], and Paeonies are one of them. I've got nine in all, 5 named varieties and 4 unnamed and I look for the first buds coming through the soil and then, like a kid. I watch as the shoots get bigger and bigger. But this is the first time it's really occurred to me how different each varieties shoots are.

I think half the fun is the anticipation, waiting to see the flower buds form and then breathing in that fantastic perfume when they're blooming. My wife loved Paeonies but always sighed that "whenever the Paeonies flower....it rains". More often than not she was right.:snork:

I planted a Karl Rosenfield last year .... it struggled ... withered and died .... I thought it had the virus and was well cheesed off, as it was well over £10

checked the garden yesterday and it seems to be growing again ....

I thought I removed it, but obviously, there must of been some roots left behind? .... I have also now planted a fatsia spiders web in that area

Paeonies are tough herbaceous perennials and take a fair amount of rough handling when planting. Your Karl Rosenfield probably just went underground to recuperate, dim, and you missed a bit when you thought you'd dug it up. It's a cracking Paeonie and well worth growing on.:snork:

I love peonies too ARMANDII but only have 2 varieties Sarah Bernhardt and a white Festiva Maxima just love that scent, this year I'm really excited though I bought 5 tree peonies from a real bargain offer in the daily paper 5 plants for £14.99 including postage!!!!!, thought they'd be tiny plants but when they arrived (2 years ago) they where huge, unfortunately I couldn't decide where to plant 2 of them and put them in pots and the cold winter killed them, they just froze in the pots my fault , but the good news is the other 3 are doing great and 2 of them have buds :hapydancsmil:I'm out there checking them every day, is that sad .
Don't forget to post pictures of yours in flower :dbgrtmb:

My Paeony that I got off freecycle last year is in a large pot at the moment and is coming along nicely; it has several flowerbuds and lots of leaves. I also can't wait to see what I've got...:blue thumb:

We got a deep red Paeony from the MIL when we moved here, nearly 30 years ago.
It was dug out of her plant.
Since then we've given loads of plants away, have several around the garden and the original is still going strong.
We also have a Pink one that ends up White after about a week, but lasts longer than the others.
I think they're good value - cost nothing, reliable and last for absolute years.

I can't speak for Joolz, but I've got two bad habits Armandii and the Paeony isn't one of them. Now that's got you thinking. :heehee:
