I doubt it very much Armandii, but you can try a guess if you like.

 I've just thought about what you've said, am I beginning to read things into it? :snork:

Absolutely adore paeonies - so much so that my wedding bouquet was made up of them.

The only reason I'd never grown them was because they have such a short flowering period (certainly the one I inherited in a previous house did).

However, I bought a Sarah Bernhardt bulb/root in B&Q a few weeks ago as they were on sale and have planted it in a container so am hoping it will grow.

If it does, then I will be planting lots more next year :imphrt:

We have a number of peonies in the garden but don't know the names of them - Mrs Shiney is sure one is Bowles Beauty). As with a lot of things in our garden, we label them but the labels disappear or the writing does! Mrs Shiney now has a label machine but hasn't used it

Our tree peonies are in bud and in advance of their normal time. One of them has 32 buds on it :hate-shocked:. There also appears to be a normal peony sprouting around the base of it (lots of stems). We definitely didn't plant one there and I know very little about peonies so don't know whether tree peonies come from a root stock.

I took these photos last year well after the tree peony had finished flowering. The first one shows the stems growing alongside the base of the tree peony.

The others are just photos of the flowers - which I really like.

        Any ideas?

I don't bother with labels - if a plant comes with one I put that in the soil, along with the plant, but I don't expect it to be useful in the future. They get brittle and break, fade, and people pick them up to read them and then stick them back on the wrong plant!

All my beds have names (usually something like NW1 for the bed in the North West corner ...) and then from the end nearest the house I pace on how many "yards" along the plant is. So I write down "Paeony SomeName NW1-3" - that's 3 yards from the end of the NW1 bed. (You have to decide which end you will pace from, my method is to start from North end, if no North end then East [clockwise around the compass]).

Unless I plant two Peonies very close to each other having a name, bed, and an approximate yardage tells me where it is.

I have a list of all the plants I have bought, over the years, with cost and their bed location(s). That job is made easier with on-line ordering as I can cut & paste from the order confirmation into my little Notepad TXT file :)

I keep an Excel file with separate tabs for front garden, back garden, planters, etc.

I keep photos of what is in each border and in what order- I'll have the names of each plant in order and details about flowering periods, eventual height, etc underneath, plus the year that I planted them out. Otherwise I'd forget what was what because my brain is turning into a sieve as I get older :rolleyespink:

I bought a Bowl of Beauty Peony this year and am waiting for it to be delivered. What variety is it, tree peony or herbaceous (sp)?
