    Evening All,

Well the new veggie patch is up and running and spuds are now in:

    Rocket
    Pentland Javelin
    Kestrel
    Maris Piper

Now I have some potatoes left over so the question is can I store them?

Also if the earlies went in the ground in March will they be harvested and leave time for a 2nd batch of earlies to go in straight after or maybe even some main crop surplus Maris Pipers that can sit through till xmas?

I just hate the thought that any left overs will just go to waste but even after 'stealing' the front part of the house for spuds there is no extra space to squeeze any more in without sacrificing other plants or veg.

And finally whilst I'm waiting for the spuds to come through is there anything I can plant alongside them as a quick crop? At the moment it seems an awful waste of space but I know that when the spuds come through they will smother everything.

    As always many thanks,

    MrM

    Hi Mr M,

Store them somewhere cool & mouse free. I plant 1st or 2nd earlies in August to give a few new potatoes for Christmas, they won't be huge mind.

Catch crops between the spuds? Rocket & Radish. Most other stuff won't have time to mature.:dbgrtmb:

    My pleasure Mr M:dbgrtmb:

Only thing is then, we'll be in the middle of the late season potato blight outbreak. So i'd spray as a precaution.

Was it you that said you'd not had the blight in your garden before?

    Hi Mr M,
I stored some surplus seed potatoes in a brown paper bag inside a drawer in the shed and sowed them late August last year, result exactly as Ziggy predicted - new spuds at Christmas time! Good luck, Charlottes are good!
