I was issued with this by my employer when there was a fuel crisis in the mid 1970's - but I have an idea that the book/coupons actually date from the Suez crisis and were brought out of Government stock in the 70's - Perhaps other members may have further information.

Not as old as WW2 as the printed information mentions Her Majesty's Government. I seem to remember, as I mentioned earlier, that these coupons we brought out of storage and issued before the newer version which Shiney has were printed. We never had to use them however as the crisis (yes your'e right 1973) seemed to fade away.

Done a bit more research - The Ration Book was issued by the Minister of Power - this portfolio was extant between January 1957 and October 1969. The rationing occasioned by the Suez Crisis ended on 14th May 1957, so the Government had a huge stock of un-issued ration books, which they obviously kept on hand for the next crisis.

So, mine were the posh new ones :heehee:. I still have the copy of the application form and I put in for those coupons on 27th Dec 1973.

I wonder if they are a collectors' item. Particularly as mine are in mint condition. :)
