Flower, weed, or both?

    This was given to me by my dad who rescued it from his local private car park. I've checked the "Know your weeds" thread but it's not there. It does look nice but then so does Red Sorrel. Any ideas anyone?

    Yes, Scrungee's right it's a Celandine also known as Ranunculus ficaria and yours is the variety known as "Brazen Hussy". There's also two other varieties with yellow flowers and green leaves and white flowers and green leaves. I've got them around my pond and underneath my Acer tree where they self seed quite readily.:snork:

      I've just shipped some into the veggie patch with some freeby topsoil trying to get some garlic without onion white rot. The memsahib says she will weed it manana! She's a great little weeder ! :blue thumb: Cheers, Tony.

        Yes you can get your coat lol. They are terracotta pots as Aesculus said. Very convincing though i must admit. Brazen Hussy- trust me get lumbered!

            I used to be a bit sentimental about celandines because they're so cute and Spring-like but now that they are choking at least 50% of my garden, and spreading, my feelings have changed somewhat.

            Typically, my plant of Brazen Hussy - the only one which cost me money - is nowhere to be found. Must've kicked the bucket. Great name, though.

            Yes i think i'll be giving this a miss then having spent many years ridding my gardens of Creeping Red Sorrel / Oxalis. I'll bung it back in mt dads' car park lol.
