    Hi

All I seem to get in my garden are horrible Jackdaws. I want a better variety of smaller, prettier birds. I've hung up a small peanut feeder to attract blue tits etc but the Jackdaws have a go at this as well...

Any ideas how I can persuade the jackdaws to move on elsewhere ?

    thanks

We have a big Rookery here & my friend had to discourage them from his garden to get the small birds in...
He put wire mesh over all his chimney pots as they like chimneys...
Cleaned out his gutters & put mesh gutter covers on them & cleared any moss that was on the roof.. They love the insect buffet they provide..
He also fixed an plastic owl with reflective eyes on his roof.. The eyes are very important as they are spooked by the reflective eyes...!!!
He then put one bird feeder for them away from the house at the far end of the garden then put nut & seed feeders nearer the house & slowly the smaller birds have come to his garden & the Rooks have left it alone...

      Thanks Marley, that's really useful.

Yes they do like chimneys! we have about 5, and although only one is in use I guess I'll need to cover them all.

Moss has built up on the roof over the years but I'd never thought of that, so I'll need to get up there with pressure sprayer.

A pressure sprayer is the way to go for the roof & gutters roger, but make sure you have someone else about when you are up on the roof, never attemt a job like that alone.. :WINK1:
One tip though, remove the large lumps of moss before you use the pressure washer otherwise you will have a huge slurry mess up there...

        Woah stop
What type of roof do you have
        English Slates OK
Red pan tiles NO do not do it, they will break up like terracota plantpots that have had frost damage

Marley's advice never go up without a footer, stands good,
Just remember the kick back on the sprayer pressure when you press the trigger, it could throw you back off the ladder (preferably scaffolding)
