Well, Sheal, they're Hostas that I've split up into eight pieces from a huge clump that was given to me by some friends after they lost interest in them. They were in a huge pot originally but they thought it would be too heavy to move in the pot....so they broke the pot open. I'd would have taken the pot as it was if I had known what they were going to do. Anyway, they survived outside with only a black plastic bag around them to protect the roots and it wasn't until just now that I decided to do something with them. They must be tough to withstand the neglect from me and the harsh Winters with just a plastic bag around them. I intend to plant some to the plants I've sown this year into both the big pots that you can see in the pics, both of which have the Hostas in them.:snork:

The Pink Bells are a bit of a mystery, Joolz, as I can't think where they came from:scratch: They seemed to come from nowhere and have grown into a bigger clump year on year.:hapfeet:

        Such a beautiful flower :spinning:

Your borders are stuffed full of lovely stuff - whereas mind look pretty bare as they only have young shrubs in them and I can't plant anything low growing as ground cover because I'm trying to grow a dog proof garden and they'd just pee on the lower growing plants :nonofinger:

I have a cunning plan though - lots of climbers so the garden will be 'top heavy'

Yep my greenhouse is the same as everyone elses loads of seedlings, god knows were they're all going :loll:.
Joolz I've just got my first seedlings sprouting of campanula thyrsoides, really excited about that one :dancy:

Yes, that sounds good Merleworld, and if you're as devious as Black Adder it should work:snork::heehee:

I've got a white climber rose [White Skyliner] outside my Kitchen door in a oak barrel as well, Simbad:thumbsup: I've just bought Clematis Tongutica and Clematis Kula from Shrewsbury Market today....couldn't resist. We never seem to learn, do we, not to curb our enthusiasm for sowing seeds and always sow miles too many:snork:
I do love to see the borders, once they're on the move, fill out so quickly and hiding the soil. I have the problem that if I see bare soil I have to plant something in it, even though I know there's bulbs and a herbaceous perennial under it, so the sooner the border fills out the better:snork:

It's been getting a weekly feed of Miracle Grow since it first started to produce shoots this Spring and once I see buds I swap over to a Tomato Fertiliser.

My rose outside the kitchen is 'Handel' remember OH taking a fancy to it when we were at the garden centre, he's not usually into plants he's more the grass man:heehee:, the White Skyliner's a beauty.
Have you tried growing clematis from seed ARMANDII? some are hard to germinate but the tanguticas are really easy sometimes flowering first year, here's my Tangutica 'Radar Love' grown from seed and just been planting out(far too many :loll:) 'Korean Beauty' which I grew last year, lovely cream flowers with burgundy anthers.

I haven't tried growing Clematis from as yet, Simbad as this year I seemed to lose the plot and get seeds for just about everything else after what seemed like a long, long Winter.:WINK1::rolleyespink: But it's not a bad idea:thumbsup: Who do you get your seed from??? Growing Clematis from seed can't be anymore harder than trying grow Bananas from seed.....so far I've had one germinate from around 3 varieties of 10 seeds each.:snork:

Much easier, the Clematis Tangutica I sowed grew like weeds - I sued them as trailing plants in the urns that Summer. Still got them in pots several years later, haven't decided what/where to do with them ... yellow is not part of our colour scheme. Might put them back in the urns this summer ... otherwise I'll bung them in a box and post them to you :)

The Bananas might germinate better if you fluctuate the heat (to simulate the fall in temperature at night in their native habitat). Dunno if you tried that?

But they are reputed to have appalling germination rate at the best of times.

Or go for Plan B? Buy seed in bulk, and then talk about how MANY germinated, rather than the percentage. 1,000 Nana seeds for 30-quid? http://www.trebrown.com/shop/bananas.php

I, being ignorant on the matter, starting just basically keeping the propagator on all the time. But then in March, while doing a bit of research, saw the advice about the hot/cold method so I've been trying that. I don't know whether it was coincidence but within a week the one and only banana showed. I had doubts about one packet of seeds out of the three from Jungle Seeds as when I gave them the obligatory pre-soak they floated, which is never a good sign of viability. I'm not down hearted though and intend to keep trying. I'll give the ones in the propagator until the end of July, I think 7 months is enough, and then try again with fresh seeds of the same 3 varieties. A thousand seeds for £30?? It would be just my luck for all 1000 to germinate, Kristen!!:heehee: Thanks, but I'll just keep bumbling along until I get some sort of success, I guess:coffee:

Kristen, if I may be a little cheeky :), Mrs Shiney has said that if you have a spare Tangutica she would love one, as her one died. She had a very prolific one that used to grow up an almond tree but the plant died the same time the tree died .

That was a peculiar year when we lost four trees that were all in line with each other and our neighbour lost two trees, 150ft away, that were also in line with them!!
