Now grafting a tomato onto a Brug rootstock might be a really good idea, given how big and fast the Brugs grow from seed!

I might even try that this year with a couple of spare plants.

Good luck with that project John. Impressive. If you got that much time spare and want to try a bit of grafting here I've got 1,000 cuttings to pot on :)

yes it a form of wild datura , you just made a good point , will it work crafting brugmansia at this point? apparently there`s not toxine in the fruits and the tree you will get is an evergreen maybe not in UK. I wish i had more brugs cutting to have a go as well.
john in case you succede , at least name one after me :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

JWK - Do the rootstock plants thrive under growlights? (it's just that I've noticed that some of my many varieties I'm growing this year don't seem to like them, and starting 25p seeds off too early or turning them purple/curly/blotchy would be an expensive mistake)

              And here's something for smokers:

                You need one of these:

The rootstock I’m using (Arnold F1) are thin straggly looking things both under growlights and on a sunny windowsill. They are worse under the growlights, the leaves are small with strange lumps/bumps, the lower leaves wither up and fall off, that has surprised me as I expected them to be fast growing plants. I hope they are putting all their efforts into producing healthy roots instead of leaf growth. Time will tell.

With my normal tomatoes seedlings I've found the same as you under growlights, some are happier than others. Some have purple colouring underneath the leaves (which normally indicates phosphorus deficiency), and withering leaves. Rosada seems to be the worst whilst Gardener’s Delight seems the happiest under my growlights. I’ve moved most out into bigger pots into my greenhouse last weekend and those are looking much healthier already in natural light even though it’s colder out there.

                :)
