Thing is, one could easily devote a forum to just The Beatles, such was their impact. I guess there are plenty that will 'poo poo' them, but even those would have to admit that they were popular. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not easily swayed or influenced by the masses, far from it, but one can't beat a good tune, which when it boils down to it, The Beatles were masters, imo. Here we are, still talking about them....nuff said..

Not just the Beatles, but all the bands in 60/70's a brilliant period to be young in
Brilliant music, you could leave a job on Friday and start another better one on Monday

Only yes the Beatles were special, they CHANGED the WORLD of not only music but lifestyle, They even gave the STONES their first Number ONE
along with songs for every other band at the time excellent new music but not suited to their style
Previous to the Beatles everyone had a short back and sides haircut, and wore suits at work and play

I definitely agree that Lennon and McCartney were brilliant talents and songwriters :dbgrtmb: and Elvis and Bing were mainly singers.

Elvis did write songs but mainly Gospel.

Bing co-wrote 15 of his hit songs (words but not music) but that wan't too much of a record as he had nearly 400 top 30 hits. He had over 40 No 1's in a time when you had to sell hundreds of thousands (if not a million) to get to No 1.

From the 1980's onward you could get a No 1 hit by selling only 10,000 records because they changed over to sampling from only a few record stores. There were a number of scandals about the managers finding out (giving bribes) which stores were going to be sampled and sending people in to buy from those stores :hate-shocked:

A tune by the late Nick Drake. It's a tune that many will have heard, but not known who it was. Quite a sad tale...Nick Drake...

              El Diablo
One of my favourite Grace Slick tracks from one of her solo albums.
Unlike a lot of modern 'vocalists' she could sing.
