Does anyone have one? I am thinking of getting one as I don't have a chimney breast but I would like a fire with the 'burning' coals effect.

    Hi Gemini

I had one in my last house (burning coal effect) , takes a while to get used to as you think the fumes will get you but you do need a vent in the wall one of those brick ones , but very clever and as you can see hasnt effected me :hate-shocked:

It does flicker on the ceiling at night and throws out a lot of heat in a hurry when you need instant warmth just by clicking a tab.

Hi Gemini, I've got 1 flueless gas fire in my living room with burning coals effect and three flueless gas heaters in each of the bedroom. They are very good and economic and I don't regret having them The one I use in the Living Room is a Matchless "Heat Machine" flueless gas fire and it is a heat machine....really good. I've also used their customer service and that was just as good, very helpful.

Wow Val do they have Gas in the Valley's :) (partially serious)

The burning coals effect, is an expensive waste of heat though it does look warmer
Gas to the central heating burns through a Matrix and heats the water for radiators and domesitc hot water most of the energy is transferred
Gas to the coals heats the coals then the heat goes up the chimney, though they do have a reflector shield to bounce some back into the room

Well you are supposed to have a room with at least 40 cubic metres for one of these fires (at least that is what I have read) apparently I have 38 is that near enough? or will the gas fitter say the room is too small??

Well if not out of the Chimney the wall vent then
The size of the room is min 40 as to be safe from the poison gasses

There aren't any poison gases the fire has a catalytic converter but they do use up the oxygen, hence the need for an additional air vent. I'm thinking of an electric one though, wondering if these gas ones are worth all the hassle!!
