Page load times are incredibly slow at present, approx 30 seconds or so in both IE and Firefox.

I've no issues browsing anywhere else and page load times elsewhere are as you would expect, almost instant.

    Steve...:)

Sorry Marley, me too. In fact, although mine has improved slightly, it is still slow and on occasions it comes to a complete halt and I log out. I find it worse trying to get out of threads for some reason.

IE, FF and G chrome are all slow for GC only, it takes between 15-30 seconds to get into a forum area from the forum index page, and much much longer to access a topic once there, often times it just hangs and IE will throw a complete white page whereas FF more often than not will go straight back to the forum index page.

It's taken more than ten minutes to get to this topic for me to update, and I've used three different browsers to do so, eventually Chrome won.

Marley, if its taken 10 mins to get here and 3 browsers it would not surprise me if that's why you have not heard of "slow" issues from others. But I see now that others are reporting it here.

            Steve...:)

I think so, but its only a program to install - so you can not use it, or uninstall, if you find you don't prefer it (assuming you don't set it to be your default browser until you are happy with it).

            I like:

Typing Google Searches into URL Address Bar - when using that search method Chrome also provides search-hints from your recent browser history and favourites which I find useful (and a bit spooky at times!).

Close-all-tabs-to-the-right - I tend to open lots of tabs (too many in fact!)

Drag a tab from one window to a new window, or onto the tab-list of another window - again, when I get too many tabs open (half finished searches and must-read-that-later!!)

Language translation - senses that a page is "foreign", offers to translate, after the first few times you tell it that YES you do want Sanskrit translated it then assumes that you can not, actually, speak Sanskrit !! and then translates pages in that language by default.

Favourites works nicely. Click the STAR icon in the address bar, current page added to Favourites. Popup offered so you can choose the Folder and/or edit the Title, but do neither and its added to the most recent folder you used. When on a page that is already in your favourites the star-icon turns gold.

Very little screen space consumed by the "control" section of the browser, more screen available to view the page.

Inbuilt spell check (had to install a plug-in for Firefox IIRC, and it only did multi-line text fields by default I think). The Chrome one suffers from the same brain-damage that the FireFox one did (the wiggly-underlines all disappearing even though there are still uncorrected errors)

has inbuilt print-to-PDF (i.e. without having to use a special PDF printer driver). I print to PDF any eBay auction I buy, for a more permanent record. You can also print to Google Cloud, but I have no idea what happens when you do that !

If you are a techie there is a right-click "inspect element" which does 99% of what FireBug does in F.Fox. It you aren;t a techie that will probably mean ZIP to you!

Dunno how much of this Firefox has by now, but I saw all these first in Chrome. IE (version 9?) has most of these now, but I don't think they are as elegantly implemented. I haven't used Firefox, my previous browser-of-choice, for a while, so not familiar with its current abilities

If you have lots of plugins in F.Fox their absence in Chrome may annoy you.

When I moved to Chrome it was streets faster than Firefox, which was much faster than IE. It achieves that, partly, by using separate processes, which probably means its a significant memory-hog compared to other single-process browsers.

Some folk worry that Google will be "watching you", even more, if you use their browser.

I've not noticed a problem (and you have written your reply whilst I have been browsing the site).

There is some slinky Javascript and Java here, and I wonder whether that is part of the potential for issues - maybe they are trying to talk to other places, or the same place but using a different protocol ... with that level of sophistication comes some potential for grief I expect ?

Seems like a lot of hops within networklayer.com - which is presumably the hosting ISP ?

              What's going on between
              bu4.gr10.telon.uk.easynet.net
              and
              se0-7-0-0.gr10.eqqas.us.easynet.net

am I being overly simplistic in thinking that is all under one roof?

Maybe someone who has normal operating speed here could post their ping and tracert for comparison?

It's like swimming in treacle here!
