I planted one seed from the free T&M 'Patons Twins Giant' yesterday. Going by the size of the seed it should be BIG BIG BIG :)

My seed has germinated, the cotelydons are distorted and none too healthy looking.

Did you scrape away at the thick edges of the seeds with a knife prior to sowing to make it easier for them to open?

No in my haste to get going I even forgot to soak the seeds overnight like I do normnally. I think they will be OK, the pumpkin is on the left with a courgette on the right, both sown at the same time:

I seem to recall someone, either you Scrungee or Steve R, posting about the T&M Pumpking challenge, where the first prize is £10,000. Is it my memory playing tricks? I can't find the thread/link anymore.

Not that I'm likely to win, the courgette plant is bigger right now.

Just wondering if anyone had spare 'Patons Twins Giant' seeds as my daughters would love to try and grow a supersize pumpkin?

Hi Tim, I've got one spare 'Patons Twins Giant' seed plus some of the giant pumpkin seed Steve R sent me last year for the 2011 competition. If you pm me your address I'll post them to you.

Mine have been taking their time to germinate too; probably as I neglected to do any pre-treatment too, however I had a sneaky peak at the seeds today (carefully I have to add ) and they are both splitting and beginning to shoot....:dancy::dbgrtmb:

I never scrape, peel or cut in any way, any seed, nor do I pre soak. Just pop it into compost and water.

                    Steve...:)
