What jobs are we doing today in the garden ?

...I am doing Jenny...even poured myself a glass of wine...
doesn't take much to excite me does it

 

But its only just struck 5pm Loli!!!!

 

Lovely warm day here again. I've not done the lawn which I was going to do, but have been planting Fuchsias in containers/hanging baskets instead.

Have also moved a Daphne odora Aureomarginata into another container, then given all the plants a good feed/drink of rainwater. It's amazing how quickly they dry out, given the horrendous rain we had on Sunday.

Love the feeling of compost under my fingernails (am I weird?!)

 

I know Jenny ....just the one before i crack on with the tea...love it when the sunshines

 

I potted my tomatoes into buckets, their final position. Re-potted several dwarf irises that I've grown from seed. I'm really pleased with those, after a bad start they're looking really healthy now. Had a bit of a tidy up in the greenhouse and hosed out three dozen or so pots and trays that I've finished with for the time being.

 

Lovely evening so managed to finally finish burning all of the prunings that have built up over the last week or two. Bliss!

 

Have planted out two more Camellias in the border, so it's now ready with five Camellias and two Clematis to climb above them along the fence. Very young plants so it will look bare for a few years until they've grown to a decent level.

 

Ooooh ! That buzz word for me - Camellias.I would love to know which ones you have. Sometimes, I love to "unwind" just looking at my Camellia book The colour dictionary of Camellias by Stirling Macoboy. I can feel a browse coming on right now....

Hi Jenny.

I have five down the border by the fence. Three are pink ones (unnamed) which look like Spring Festival. I bought one from Aldi and ended up with several in the same pot

I also have an Extravaganza and Eric Baker down that border.

In a border at the front of the house I've planted another of the pink ones, an unnamed red one and another Extravaganza, where they are kept company by some Rhodos.

In planters I have Debutante, Madame de Strekaloff, Desire, Nina Avery, Debbie and Jury's Yellow

All very young plants so looking forward to seeing them grow up.

Have been to B&Q to stock up on compost, rose food and planters but ended up buying two more roses so will be potting those in containers, plus splitting the patio rose I bought the other day into four (there were four in one pot).

I'm also going to pot up my Fuchsias.

Before all that I'm going to mow the lawn (least favourite garden job).

 

Been pottering with my fuchsias.

Then got a call to go look at another garden job.

And finally away to go and buy my alpine plants them red ,white and blue.

You never know a fuchsia may find its way into my order

 

I've just got back from strimming the footpaths around the allotment, and 'cos I'm such a good bloke, I strimmed next plots footpaths as well. I'm off down again after a cuppa and a sandwich to put the grass in MY compost heap (sneaky hu)? My forearms are on fire ! ! !

The strimmer was bought cheeeep about three years ago when an agricultural concern moved house and was selling stuff off at silly money rather than cart it.

Good but not as powerful as my last strimmer. Taking the hoe to decapitate the flush of Jerusalem Artichokes, moved them (well most) to a different site.

Spuds are peeping through their mulch of straw.

A friend has lent us a riddle so OH and I are gonna sieve a bag of compost. I DID do some (about 1/3rd) the other day and loved the look of the sieved stuff. I can tweak it as necessary depending on what I want to do with it. Riddles gotta go back tonight so just pray for a brief dry spell this afternoon please

 

Lord !! You should have seen his face after about 5 minutes. I got the classic "look" ."Hope we haven't got to do this every year. My back ain't that good nowadays." He does Pilates on Monday and Yoga on Friday and gets 3 good meals a day.
Honestly,you just can't get decent staff these days....
