All burning gas produces poisonos gasses and if the flame is burning yellow carbon monoxide, the converter is after it has burnt and gone to the exhaust, that is efficient in a back boiler through the matrix, But you are wanting the open coal effect thus it burns through the coal substitue to make it glow red with bouncing flames, then the heat ie gas is deflected into your room then drawn up the Flue, all burning fires use oxygen that is how they burn, so that is why they fit a girt big air brick hole in your wall

Question does your house have GAS fitted for but not with ? Doh you answered that in the other thread sorry :-)

Have you considered a Calor Gas heater like the Provence:

    Attractive looking and heat efficient.

Calor DELIVER direct to your door

Though I dread to think of the cost, my greenhouse heater cost me £16 for 48hrs constant at 14c,
I think you can get the big Calor gas tanks in your garden or yard though, the greater amount you buy the cheaper the cost

If I had bought a 19kg cylinder instead of 4.5kg it would only have been £10 NOT £16 and Scrungee can beat that price
