Mr Grinch's Garden

I was looking at Vilmorinii a couple of days ago, so I've decided to invest in one to.
The berries start red, fading to pink then white apparently and the leaves turn red in autumn. The height is reasonable and it will put up with my sandy soil. Perfect!

 

Mr. Grinch have you recently put your location under your avatar. It's the first time I've noticed it. I used to live in the Warwick Road area of Rayleigh.

What did you think of our soil ? Did you have drainage probs in Warwick Road ? What took you to Man, bit of a drive

Weather Watch
More heavy rain overnight. Very overcast and drizzle this morning. More rain showers forecast.
Mr Grinch's Garden Watch
Gardens under water again this AM. Yesterday, i sprayed one of my Lupin plants that had been virtually flattened by rain and wind. It will perk up but i noticed green fly and lots of them so gave it a spray (sorry but havnt got time to pick em off). I also gave the roses a spray of a fungicide, just to keep the rust and black spot at bay. This wet war weather is not good for that. The Photinia i dug up from my wet area is looking ok in the pot which is surprising baring in mind it had no vibrous root. Will keep it watered and left in the pot for a year to get establised, then find a spot for it.
Its all very frustating this weather as i just cant get out there and finish my projects

Looking at it lolimac, it might have to be "Eatern Promise". I think it will cope better on my heavy clay wetter soil.

Maybe so Mr G,my soil isn't sandy but it's not heavy either so i might get away with Vilmoriniii have just one problem.....where can i put it

I've moved about a bit Mr. Grinch. Potted history......born in Pitsea before Basildon existed. Moved to Benfleet after parents place was compulsorily purchased at the age of six. Married and moved to Rayleigh and didn't have time for gardening there, as a family was on the production line. No idea what the soil was like, sorry. Later moved further out to Colchester, for nine years, to get back into the green areas.

Had our first visit to the island (one week) to see my father-in-law who'd retired here, fell in love with the place and the house went on the market when we got back. I've been here twenty years now. Apart from the rain, it's a lovely place to live.
