I'm not sure I'm opposed to GM stuff.

I understand people's concerns, its messing with nature, but so is selective breeding isn't it?

I think GM has great potential, as long as it is not abused. It would be great, for example, if someone was to make some staple food crops do well in places where the local environment is normally too harsh.

they already are doing that ....

and for gardeners, there will be a new strain of lawn seed released soon .... one that is resistant to roundup, so no more weed problems (as long as you use roundup)

I think it looks quiet nice although i would have said it was more a purple colour than blue and as Carnations are one of my favourite flowers then it will always look good and i wouldn't mind one:biggrin:

If GM means that I can grow plants that are resistent to many bugs and diseases then i am all for it especially as well if they can breed fruit plants that enable the fruit to keep for long periods of time without them rotting as soon as you buy them from the shops:snork:

I don't think think the bees will vanish due to GM plants but will die off due to the Verroa might or the sudden death hive syndrome that is rife at the moment. Now if they could do more to erradicate those problems then that would help the bees no end.

One of the most worrying possibilities with GM is that alot of plants that have been genetically modified are still have viable pollen producers which obviously is unavoidable with food crops such as wheat, barley etc. but I remember reading an article a few years ago of surveys being done of road side weeds in the US and the percentage that were unaffected by Glyphosate and other weed killers due to hybridisation with native grasses and GM crop grasses

Look at the number of chemicals which are now baned dew to saftey, these chemicals a number of years ago were so called safe ie DDT and lead in petrol & paints etc

Is the same going to happen with GM
