Oh how awful Jenny, know we moan about waiting times for operations etc, but at least we have a NHS, my mother in laws just had a replacement hip at 83 and they've been brilliant with her, insisted she stayed in a care home for three weeks after, even though she didn't want to , sent a physio out to help her to get mobile again once a week for 6 weeks and she's up and about walking again with just one stick in quite a short time for someone her age, so yes we are very lucky.

Love the wild garlic Bilbo, we've just had some new house built across from us and they've been clearing a small wooded area which was full of it, the smells been lovely:biggrin:

Shiney, hold them back for a few weeks so I can see them for real!:blue thumb:

Trunky like you, where we are now is next to heathland and mainly sand, I dread to think what it will be like in the Summer. I have a lot of soil improving to do.

Some things are speeding ahead and some seem to be behind - but I'm sure there'll be plent of colour when you get here. Some people have been popping in and buying a few of the named aquilegias. As they're in pots and have been carefully looked after they have started flowering - which always sells well.

Someone who always buys a lot of aquilegias (usually 20 - 40 of them) each year is coming in on Monday to have a look. He may want all the Biedemeyer, and McKana as they are flowering. The Lime Sorbet aren't quite in flower yet but are one of my favourites. I said to Mrs Shiney that we should keep some for Open Day but she says that unless people place orders for them she wants to sell them!

I inherited these tulips so a bit of a surprise. First time they've bloomed as they'd been buried under overgrown shrubs.

i've 'inherited' some wild Garlic which came with some clumps of Snowdrops give to us so I separated them and planted them here and there. Not sure whether I'll keep them.

          Acers, bringing some Spring Colour.
At last I had been able to plant this Palmatum, It's been in a pot for three years.

Cheers Trunky, I'm not a tulip person but these are pretty nice as you say. Thanks for the ID.

Despite yet another dull, cold and damp day here, I still managed to find some colour in the garden today to brighten my spirits.

A patch of self seeded Honesty looking good in the front garden:

Nearby, a mixture of two types of Euonymous; 'Emerald Gaiety' and 'Emerald n Gold' planted in a narrow bed against a low wall are doing fine:

              DSC06280.JPG

Pieris 'Forest Flame' in a large pot brightens up a shady corner, happily it survived being blown over in last weekend's gales.

A happy accident. I often use old 10 litre plastic pots filled with soil from the vegetable plots for growing herbs, or for cucumbers in the greenhouse. At the end of last summer I dumped some of the pots outside, but never quite got around to emptying out the soil. When I finally got round to it a few weeks ago, I noticed Forget-me-nots and Catmint had appeared in this one, so I topped up the soil and left them to it.

Despite the dull and damp conditions, a closer look produced some hidden beauty.

The rain had settled in droplets on the leaves of the Heuchera 'Chocolate Ruffles' and Alchemilla mollis:

Centaurea and a couple of random insects braving the weather:

The Garlic Mustard in the 'wild' area is coming in to flower:

The first, delicate leaves on my Acer Drumondii tree are unfurling:
