I wonder, has anyone measured the temperature difference between inside a blowaway greenhouse and outside?

I have lots of tender plants in mine. I can't be bothered to bring them in, but then I didn't on the last few occasions when we had unusual sub zeros up here. The car told me it was 7 degrees C here today, but in the greenhouse it felt to me like med sort of climate. Certainly noticeably warmer than either in the house or outside. I should really get a thermometer I guess.

Did that last night as looked like we might get frost, but after the torrential rains here for the last 3 weeks it was more a case of "Mud up your spuds" :(

I pumped 200 - 300 cu.m. !! of water out of the soakaway on Thursday-Friday. Last night the main pond water level dropped a foot - I suspect the liner had been lifted by ground-water pressure, and has not settled ... should I build an Ark and get a couple of Doves do you think?!

Forecast says -1C here tonight, but I've just been out and it feels mild.

It will offer very little retained heat overnight, so will fall to pretty much same as outside. Chuck an old douvet or blanket(s) over it - if the frame is strong enough?

A large bottle (5L or more) filled with hot water and placed in the bottom will help too - put it out as late as you can keep your eyes open! i.e. when the temperature is starting to encroach on zero.

Generally this time of year minimum temperatures are reached around 6:30am and then immediately start to rise. We are at +5C here, but York to Durham looks to be 0C / -1C already ...

I have a max min remote thermometer in mine both outside, in the greenhouse and indoors

          Outside 03:00 -4c gh +2c inside 19c

I also have two manual thermometers which actually show the same min max so I picked correctly, but I guess you get what you pay for
My manual ones were from HomeBase, though I had a problem picking them

On the shelf they had twenty, only seven were showing 12c and the rest were showing 18c also the min max needles were showing similar discrepancy, so I picked one from the majority score of 18c

Thanks for the info Jack. By that token, I'm guessing a -1C here will translate to above zero in the greenhouse.

We have the added bonus of a massive communal heating system here too, in the form of the blast furnace about half a mile away and the chemical plant at the end of my road:loll:

Forecast is 5 °C min in the local town. temps im my village fall 2 or 3 deg below that, and at my plot outside the village they can be another few degrees lower. But the Met Office have a nasty habit of lowering the forecast by a few degrees after everybody's gone to bed.

5.30am and its +2.5 degrees here so I'm guessing we've missed the worst of any frost last night, there looks like there is the smallest amount of ice on some car windows but there's nothing on the ground..

8.3°C In the garden, so bit of a false alarm here.

EDIT: It dropped to 6.4°C over the next hour.

Dry, overcast and very still at the moment.

Re blowaways:- Although the temperature is likely to drop to the same as outside, if there is frost outside there is unlikely to be actual frost inside. Depending on the plants, this can make a big difference. Particularly if you have it where the morning sun reaches it. Morning sun on frosty plants is not good!

Is that a glasshouse JMcH? Temperature likely to be much closer to ambient in a blow-away :(
