Its King Protea, only one flower bud this year, I'm assuming due to me planting it out last summer from a pot.

That's a nice fat protea bud Pete:blue thumb: . With the poor soil I have here I might try Proteas again.

Strongy, I saw some very nice yellow flowered Banksias growing outside the temperate house a Kew last time I was there.
Surely worth a try in your area.
I dont actually have acid soil, and its a bit clayey, but how long a protea can survive is experimental.

Another Aquilegia just starting to flower; not sure what type this is, it was a little seedling growing in a pot (with 3 others) of another plant I got last year, so I pricked them out and grew them on and this is what's opening....love it, very sturdy plants with LOTS of small double flowers :dbgrtmb:

                  Nice Aquilegia, Bilboe. :dbgrtmb:

Joolz and Jenny, they'll be out pretty soon now. The ones I put up last week on this thread were only in flower because they're in one of my specially protected plant growing areas - it's called 'the car port' :heehee:. They're in pots and ready for sale. The others in the uncovered areas and in the garden are trying to flower but haven't succeeded yet - but will start next week. We haven't got all that many in the garden - only about 3,000 :hate-shocked: :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Our pink tree peony has started to flower and has somewhere between 20 and 30 buds on it.

and the rest of the garden is suddenly rushing ahead now that the temperature has risen
