What jobs are we doing today in the garden ?

Busy today riddling out compost from one of the Daleks - really pleased with this batch, - as dear Geoffrey Smith used to say - "its almost good enough to eat in a sandwich"

booked a new job in a new build area today

small garden .... nothing there except lawn and the client wants a 'jungly' garden .... no flowers and mainly foilage .... beds need to be widenened and lights need to be brought forward once the larger beds are sorted (the lights are not solar .... they are connected to electricity)

he wants large shrubs as he is not prepared to wait years for them to grow ... and he has a very nice budget .... so a few large palms etc will be on order soon ... I will enjoy this one as I can do whatever I want .... this is the sort of jobs I enjoy the most

 

Lucky you Dim, a nice blank canvas. Looks a bit "boxed in " as it stands but I'm sure there are ways to modify that claustrophobic feeling?

 

it may look ok with a star jasmine on the back brick wall, a couple of Trachycarpus Waganarius palms, one or 2 T-rex, a fatsia, a few evergreen shrubs for backbone, a couple of musa basjoo and a few nice smelling shrubs, evergreen ferns, a few huechera, a few hosta etc etc .... (with all that there will be no lawn left! )

the area is pretty well protected from wind

I will need to make the beds approx 1-1.2 meters wide though ...

he is not too concerned with a large lawn .... he wants a jungle effect, but I suppose it has to blend in with the available space

he saw a garden that I landscaped from scratch and wants similar .... only problem is that the other garden is about 2 1/2 times as big as his .... he is also keen to pay extra for large shrubs including the palms ....

Mowed back lawn, cleaned pond, dug over annual borders.
Watered plug plants in greenhouse

 

If the weather stays as nice as it is now, then I may make a start on the new border at the front. I think I'll get the jobs in the front done and then concentrate on the back.

 

Other half and I spent 2 hours pruning 2/3 feet off a fifty feet long Escallonia hedge today. We also pruned our neighbours overhanging Hawthorn tree and took out a load of dead wood as well. A further two hours to clear up, it's a killer on the back!

Was going to get some pea netting for my Sweet Peas but my old dad won't hear of it...he's always made them but thought i'd save him a job as he had a busy day yesterday taking up a concrete path while i was out at work ...not bad for 84 years of age eh.....he loves doing my sweet pea frames ..he used to be a ships rigger back in the day so likes to keep his hand in

 

I'm going to make do with some green netting round a drain pipe for my Sweetpeas!

Today I will mostly be doing zilch in the garden because a) I'm in work and b) the garden is soggy again. Actually I tell a lie, if it's nice when I get home then I may give the Otto Luykens some granular feed and a compost mulch. Then again I might not.

I always think I'm going to do one thing and then I get distracted and end up doing something else

 

Doing nothing. The weather is awful up here. Strong winds and heavy rain.

 

Well my 'bezzie mate' (dad) has made a start on my sweet pea frames....i've been 'chillaxing' in this freak sunshine....one more ''tree' then i must go and pot on my toms....no rest for the wicked :WINK1:
