Hi all, I quite fancy growing mum's in a container, and perhaps in a small border. The internet has so much info on mum's that I'm finding it difficult to get a consensus on, what mum/s are best for containers ? and what is the best time to buy and plant mum's in the UK ?
    Any info much appreciated.

    Hi Gazania
You can buy chrysanthemums in garden centres at the moment . For the garden you can grow spray or bloom varieties .Sprays would have the growing tip taken out and the results shoots allowed to flower , blooms would have the tip removed and the the resultings shots would have the flower buds reduced to just the main one on each stem giving a large bloom on each stem..
You can also grow them successfully in large pots or containers in the same way ..These would be classed as early flowering .

You can get varieties that will flower late in the year ,these would be grown in large pots during the summer then taken indoored in the autumn to flower Nov /Dec but these may not be so easy to find in the local garden centre .

    Hope this helps .

Yes Dave that does help. I was confronted with so much info on the inernet that I couldn't suss it all out. !
I shall look at sprays and blooms over the weekend when I do a garden centre visit. I fancy having some around my circular Japanese garden, and I have a couple of big pots I would like to try them in.
Do you have any Dave ?

Hi Dave, well I visited 2 local garden centres today after work and neither had, or plan to be having any mum's ! Which was a bit disappointing.
If I do manage to find any, does a certain variety/type suit planting in containers ? Sprays perhaps ?

        Hi Gazania .
Sorry to hear no one has any chrysanthemums locally ..There are specialist nurseries but it is a little late for just rooted cuttings ..As regards which to grow ,they will all proform well .

Hi, well, I called into another garden centre today and asked if they had any mum's. So, the lady say's 'it's too early yet.' Fair enough I say. THEN, looking about the centre I come across some white tall daisy like 'chrysanthemums.' THEN I came across a different type of white 'chrysanthemum'. THEN, I came across some nice small bergundy coloured 'chrysanthemums.' !!! I bought some of the burgundy 'chrysanthemums.' I was gonna tell the lady but thought 'hey ho'.
