What's Buzzing or Flying near You Today..?? Mark 2..!!

Know what you mean, Strongy. Unfortunately the woodpigeons and collared doves which visit my garden don't seem to be that keen on hoovering nyger seed; I think they find it too fiddly. So I end up with piles of stuff all over the place. Mind you, the worst culprits for mess are the blue tits. They seem incapable of eating from those coconut shell suet feeders without chucking the contents everywhere. Sometimes I think they're deliberately taking the pee.

Wish I had a few songthrushes to deal with the snails!

It's the starlings in my garden. I put the suet pellets out and they love them but they visit en masse and a good deal of the pellets end up in the surrounding grass. If the blackbirds (and neighbour's cats) don't eat them and I forget to pick them up (which is usual) then I end up with a horrid gunky mess all stuck in the grass.

I've got the feeder in a weighted stand but that still wasn't enough to keep it upright when one of the cats (don't know if it was mine or one of the neighbouring ones) launched themselves at it early one morning and I came down to find the feeder prostrate and seeds, nuts and suet spread half way across the lawn. From them on I've had it strapped to a fence post*, but it's not in an ideal position - as you can see .

*We're still slightly puzzled at the position of this post, can only assume a previous owner had some kind of fence there, but why we'll never know. Still at least it's useful for keeing the feeder upright for now!

 

Had this little visitor to the patio on Sunday - had to zip out quickly during the Grand Prix to get its photo! A Speckled Wood if I've consulted the butterfly book properly.

 

Nice pic , I tried to get one sunday at Brownsea but it wouldn't stay still long enough.

 

There was an 'orange tip' butterfly in my mums garden yesterday....lovely little thing ...no chance of a pic...as you say Strongy,wouldn't keep still...
I've never seen one before....apparently they are normally seen down south....i love it when i see something new
