Only found out about the roots when I accidentally hoiked one out with the blind cord:doh:

They are in a very fine seed compost at the moment, maybe they need someting a bit more fibrous to get the roots in?

Mine are doing well, badly need potting on. I have pots on order but if they don't come tomorrow I may well go to a local nursery to buy some. :)

Moyra, if you can wait until you come here I can let you have some :dbgrtmb: . What size do you want and how many?

It's the first size for potting on Shiney what we used to call 60's or 3½inch pots but I only want about 20 and then some of them will be given away in fact I could bring you some tobacco plants to sell if you want. I have about 22 and I shall not be growing all of them on. Eventually, I shall be potting the half dozen or eight that Steve wants into large 10inch pots and in fact if these other pots I have ordered don't come soon I shall probably pot the 8 straight into the larger pots but I cannot do anything until I can clear the large potted plants I am keeping in my cold greenhouse waiting to be planted out first week in June. When they are transplanted into the garden then I shall have more than enough large pots for my needs and they will probably stay within the cold greenhouse and as I say the remainder of the tobacco will then be given away so if Steve's friends don't want them you can have them for your sale.

      Thanks Moyra :dbgrtmb:

When you come along, if you do need any pots just let me know. Particularly the small ones as I have loads.

Ok Shiney.m We'll see how it goes but the pots still haven't turned up and I was promised by the firm that they would be here by today. They reckon they posted them on the 3rd May.........surely 2nd class should not take that long for 20 plastic pots?:nonofinger:

Just a reminder, now the leaves are getting bigger, don't handle them without gloves as you'll readily absorb the nicotein thru your skin.

Ziggy's got me worried now as it is nearly 11 years ago since I packed up smoking and I certainly don't need old cravings raising their ugly heads. I didn't realize that the nicotine could rub off so as to speak because there are various types of nicotine plants that are sold for the flowers not for smoking. No, Shiney you could well be right that they wouldn't be appropriate for your sale. Sorry about that I don't want your reputation spoilt. I will find some rubber or plastic gloves to wear when I pot them up and maybe I will just ditch those that Steve doesn't want. Sorry! :cry3:

Thanks Ziggy for the warning. I shall heed it very carefully.:)

I've just read this thread for the first time. Although I'm growing the flower type not tobacco plants can they all be treated the same? Mine have been sitting on my patio now for a fortnight waiting to be planted out and seem quite hardy. They've been putting up with overnight temperatures as low as 5C minimum and are still looking very healthy. I've not covered them at all. :)

Yep, same plants Sheal, just varieties.

I also just read that the "Burley" variety is the highest nicotein one.
