where i worked a few years back, i decided that the front of the building needed some baskets to brighten it up. went to the garden centre, bought the baskets, brackets, plants, compost and the liners, spent over £100 on them.

put them up and when i opened up the next morning they had been lifted!! they were 10 or so feet up as well!! i don't think it is kids tbh, just some thieving low life thinking they can take what they want!!!
got some more to replace them and tied them up and locked them to the brackets in the end. shame you have to do these things just you can have something nice

I'm glad this thread has come back to life because it gives me a chance to whinge without starting a new thread.

On about mindless freaks who steal and destroy for the sake of it, got back in tonight and one of my tulips was just laid on the floor, bulb and all, plucked out of the ground for the sake of it.

The fact is the tulips are about finished anyway, but that's not the point. The very same people who whine that the live in a deprived and depressing neighbourhood, eg the lazy worthless chavs, are the very same people that destroy every attempt to make a place better for everybody including them. Surely nobody actually wants to live some grim and depressing? So why do these people do these things to their own neighbourhoods.

Anyway, seeing as it was one tulip, I'm going to climb down off my soap box now.

I've started planting and landscaping in a pub in our village ... pub opens on friday ....

I'm dreading this one as competion for the job was stiff (all the landscaping guys in our area tendered for the job) .... I was not the cheapest, and managed to land the contract .... I've been working there a few weeks now, sorting the lawn and clearing the bed and weeds

all the other gardeners have stopped to have a look ... and have a 'chat', but the looks in their eyes have looked mean and upset and chats were not friendly ....

although I live in the village, most of my work is in other villages in my area

so, will see how this one goes .... one of the guys is known to be a stirrer and does not like people encroaching on his turf and lives in a travellers camp, and the other gardeners live there aswell

just hope that my plants dont get glyphosated in the dead of night ...

I have bought a hanging basket tree to put in our front garden (a tiny wee area in between the front window of the house and the front wall, about 8ft square), and I am dreading coming home and finding it damaged or gone - but, without it, I have no way of getting a nice display of flowers at the front of the house.

Dim - its no wonder this woman will happily recommend you to others, beside the fact that she is obviously happy with your gardening skills, you are a thoroughly decent chap!

A couple of years ago I had my summer hanging baskets stolen and someone - I think it was Marley - recommened using jubilee clips to secure the baskets. It has worked so far!!!

yup ... gertrude jekyll in the sunny position and planted Moineux roses on the shorter border that has slightly less sun (red and yellow are the main theme colours of this layout and there are loads of georgia peach huechera, solar power huecherella, ferns, hakonechloa macra aureola grass etc, plus loads of large shrubs that smell good ... hoping to finish the planting early next week

got a call today, more plants arrived, but will plant them tommorow morning (I think the rest should arrive tommorow as they were ordered on monday)

the pints are cheap there .... on the billboard, they are advertising pints for £2.50 each

bit a a pub war going to happen in our village .... village is small, and there are 4 pubs .... one of the pubs is advertising a beer festival on the weekend with a hog roast, and rumour has it that the owner of one of the other pubs wants to retire now, and has his pub on the market

sad .... pubs are really suffering now and have seen a few pubs in other villages that are now deserted with windows boarded up
