    Hi folks,

IF everything goes to plan, there will be a little downtime over this coming weekend, due to a change in Hostas.

We are changing to a different hosta to hopefully speed up the site, as a server has been found that costs the same as our current server, but is faster.

All updates on downtime (whilst GC is down) will be posted on Twitter, at our page here :-

    https://twitter.com/#!/GC_Forum

    Thanks for your support

    Nathan.

Indeed much faster, by putting ziggy on a exercise bike and hooking that up to the server we can greatly increase speed

downside is the greatly increased need for chocolate hobnobs.

Why change your Hosta? Is it not growing?

Nathan is changing the Hosta for a more slug resistant variety Gcc.

The Valium is on top of the bathroom cabinet, next to the shaving brush:dbgrtmb:

Rich and Nate have very carefully measured the bit of string, you can't reach it from the bike & if you stop peddaling the lights go out:doh:

So when is the down time likely to be?
                  I dont use Twitter.

Bit of a side issue regarding speed, but Virgin Media has supposedly doubled my broadband speed.
I'm finding everything is now slower, the Virgin site is probably the worst of any I use.
Pages take ages to load now I'm on the new double speed.

I was going to complain, but in order to do that you have to be able to actually contact someone, and as far as I can tell, nobody actually works for Virgin, the whole set up is automated with very silly voices churning out the same old stuff which is no help what so ever.
I think they have all disappeared into the wide Blueyonder

I was even asked to press 1 or 2 etc to chose what stupid music I want to hear while I sit and wait until midnight, when Bombay takes over the call centre, and I get to speak to a person, not able to help, but, a person.

If Richard Branston is looking in, I suggest you stick to making pickle, mate, its more your style.

pete, My Virgin broadband stopped working earlier this week and I spent about an hour on hold listening to the 'music'. I was unable to get through and had to hang up and go to bed. Next day I used the internet at work to google the problem and was able to sort it myself (the Superhub had got itself into a 'funny' state). Got to say that was the first time I've been unable to get through to them. Wonder if they have over-streched themselves now,

The first time I phoned an ISP's contact number for lack of internet service and got a recorded message suggesting I look on their website for the answer, I realised I was on my own and sorted it myself.

                      Have 'bookmarked' that twitter link.

Yes John, the new "super hub", they sent me one, but things have slowed down since I connected it.
Maybe I need to run it in for 500hours or something.
BTW, are you supposed to turn these things off, I always do when I've finished with it but I find a lot of people who say they leave them on permanently.

Switching off is up to you really, I've got mine on a timer so it switches off overnight because I'm a skinflint. I dunno if it saves much money but it certainly throws out a fair bit of heat so I'm assuming that equates to a few pence every day.
