What do you make of the story of Georgia Davis, Britain's fattest teen? She weighs in at 63 stones, and part of her home had to be demolished recently in order to get her to hospital. The operation also involved building a temporary bridge to the upper floor (presumably, a very strong bridge) so that she could be hauled out like some exceptionally weighty piece of cargo. All in all, at least thirty people were involved in the manoeuvre.

It seems incredible to me that things were left to get to this stage. I think her mum is guilty of child abuse. It's also ironic that, while many poor people elsewhere are starving, obesity seems to be the killer disease for the underprivileged here.

The thing that always gets me with these cases is that these people are being fed by someone else. If they can't get up and prepare their own food, then it's easy enough to restrict what they eat (regardless of the tantrums). How can you watch someone you love get into that state and yet still keep feeding them, quite literally to death?

      My thoughts exactly.

You don't get to be 63 stone overnight. It must have taken years. Absolutely loads of time to see that a problem is developing and do something about it. I know its not easy to control weight, but its one thing to have a few surplus pounds, and something else entirely to be approx half the weight of a family car.

After reading about it it seems her mother is totally to blame if she gave her evaporated milk as baby milk & fed her tinned potatoes as baby food.. I cannot understand why social services didn't step in years ago...!!! :hate-shocked:

I know this sounds cruel, but i find it hard to have any sympathy for her. She was given all the help in the world and managed to loose most the weight but then put it all back on! She chooses to eat the food, nobody is forcing it down her neck.
If she had not already had huge ammounts of support that show she can loose weight if she tries i may have more sympathy. I think she will be dead if she does not have a band fitted soon. I also hope the insurance company paid for the house to be repaired after cutting her out.
