Is this a frog or a toad?

Just went outside to water tomatoes - it's cooler now and the sun's gone down. As I moved this pot out of the way, this little chap popped out . He had been sitting in the middle in the shade I suppose.
I cannot tell the difference between a frog and a toad. Sorry, not a very good camera for real close ups.
Can someone please enlighten me.

Iv'e just read up about the Rana temporaria on Wikpedia. Lovely little thing. He;s popped back inside the lobster pot now so I cannot look at his or her thumb to see if it's male or female.

 

He/ she should be just fine.
Maybe keep a shallow dish( so it can get out easily) of water in a shady nook.
They will hid under things to keep skin moist.
Great to have around as they will eat slugs/insects etc.

 

Easy way to tell frogs from toads, frogs are smooth and toads are bumpy.

 

I was going to say if you make a small hollow in some soil and put in said creature, if it climbs out its a frog if it stays there its a toad.

Surely you must have heard of ............

Before I was up, a squirrel got it into into its head to plant some Squill bulblets in the square sweet pea container. Not my choice but, there you go. He hurled compost East,West,North and South - planted a bulblet in each corner and then PUSHED OFF. Leaving compost all over surrounding containers which included the lobster pot. As I moved tsaid pot out to clear up the squirrel's scattered compost, the little frog clambered out to see what all the fuss was about. This gave me the opportunity to inspect the front feet. There was no swelling on the first digit/thumb so I presume she's a female. She's gone back in, I have sprayed the pot of Erigeron daisies with some water and pushed her back in the shade. Nice
