Any gardens to visit in Yorkshire?

Hi all.

We`re heading to York for 3 days on Saturday, then up to Windermere for a couple of days after that.

Can anyone recommend any nice gardens worth a visit, in and around these areas.

Castle Howard is not far from York.
There's also the Lavendar Farm at Hovingham. Have a wander around Hovingham if your there. It's a very pretty village - and the Pub's not bad either.
When in Windermere, there's Hayes Garden Centre. You can spend a good couple of hours there - and check out the Magnolia Tree. It's impressive

 

Harlow Carr gardens ...got to be worth a visit...Harrogate..north yorkshire and also Harwood house near leeds

 

I second the recommendation for Harlow Carr. Also suggest you look at Stillingfleet Lodge which was recommended by someone on a different thread and is my next planned visit

Hayes in Ambleside is awesome and we came across a great little place in Grassmere where we got some cheapo perennials. (Top tip for you) They have a big car park so park there for a while and buy a cheap plant to pay for your parking. It`s opposite the church. Grassmere is gorgeous by the way and worth a look if you`re in the area.

We stopped off at Houghton Hall garden centre at Carlisle on the way home. Predominantly to get some fish if truth be told, but we also done a few quid in the farm shop (very reasonably priced) and got a couple of houseplants. A Gloxinia and a Hibiscus.

Over the three places we got (in varying numbers) Huechera, Salvia, Geranium, Delphinium 'guardian blue', Geum 'borisii', Papaver 'iceland poppy' and Centaurea 'montana'.
That should basically fill the space in front of the house now
