If they're in a tin - it didn't do the tuna much good! :hate-shocked:

when BP had the oil spill, and used millions of gallons of oil dispersant called Corexit, they too said that the gulf fish was safe to eat .... and to make matters worse, a type of bacteria that eats oil, and that was manufactured by Craig Venter was also introduced to the oil, and they also said that it was safe to eat

a few weeks ago, hundreds of dolphins died and were washed up on a beach .... they now say they they died of 'natural causes' .... (maybe old age???) ...

a few days ago, thousands of crustaceans (sp) was washed up ashore, all dead

in Japan, even the vegetables are deforming, and the nuclear rods are still in meltdown .... they don't know how to sort it ... and it's getting worse

the oceans will all be contaminated in a few months time, and governments are playing it down, and not telling us the truth

I have stopped buying fish now ....

        it's sad

Once the cans start to glow in the dark I'll stop buying it.
If the price of gas gets any higher, it just might be an idea to sit around a few cans of tuna during the evenings next winter.

Well, considering pretty all commercially available meat is pure filth (I'm not a veggie, I eat meat, but I know and accept what I eat), I wouldn't be put off by a bit of tuna that might have swam in some mucky water.

Consider your ham, or any pork product for that matter. There's a good chance that the pig that it came off was grown in one of Holland's superfarms, where pigs are so crammed that they can't even move, and are effectively force fed the perfect balance of nutrients, while being pumped with growth promoters (this used to be true a few years ago, not sure if the law has changed since). Then as if that's not enough, the meat is then injected with a solution of water and extracts of 'animal protein' (which can come from any part of just about any animal until its about 50% bigger than it was, and so it gets packaged, sold, and eaten.

Next time you pick up a bag of minced beef at the supermarket, or a pack of bacon, read the ingredients. When minced beef can say '82% beef', or bacon can say '82% pork', you have to ask yourself what exactly the other 18% is.

I studied chicken farming when I was younger (not as a job, but my first property was a smallholding, and I requested study material/advice from a university)

one of the things that they do, is as soon as the chicken is defeathered, it is dipped in a tank of ice cold water .... the warm body temp sucks up water which makes it considerably heavier .... so when you sell it per kg, you get more money .... the same is done with ham (read the label, it tells you the water content)

but back on topic .... perhaps it's time to buy radiation geiger meters for when you go shopping for fish?

And point them at the food, then panic, then point it straight at the sky and calm down a bit (or panic even more depending on your disposition).

I remember an experiment at school where the physics teacher pointed a geiger counter at a coin sized piece of uranium. The geiger counter went silly as you'd expected. Then he pointed it straight up. The result was nearly the same. He was demonstrated what we nowadays call cosmic background radiation, that we are all being bombarded with 24/7.

All that's not to say that I'd happily eat a fish that was so heavily contaminated that I felt at risk, just that if we're told its safe to eat, its probably no worse than everything else we're exposed to day in day out.

Following on from that, if you used to have a "glow in the dark watch" that paint was radio active.
You still get smoke detectors that are radio active, as clueless says we are exposed to all sorts day in and day out.

I would also ask for proof that some thing is "bad for you" not what some reporter has made up written in a newspaper. And as for what they do to food, if you knew what went into food or what it goes through you would eat nothing.

e.g. I watch "how its made" the other day,(so it should be genuine) one of the things was pork pies (I really never have liked them, I don't like the pastry) they showed how they are made, the bit that surprised me was the gelatine they inject the pies with, its made from,.......... no, I wont say, I don't want to spoil it for any pork pie lovers, then again there is also Kopi Luwak coffee you don't want to know what happens before you get that.

My whole point is that if you worry about every small thing you would either starve or worry your self to death.
