Lidl are selling "a selection of luxury exotic fruit plants such as Passionfruit, Kiwi, Banana or Goji berry"

    They are all £3.49 each.

I bought a couple of Musa basjoos tonight, they are about 18" tall :blue thumb:

Its a good price :blue thumb:

I've got one Basjoo ... and I still think, personally speaking, that its leaves are too narrow - I want more Paddle-shaped leaves - and for that I think the Musa sikkimensis are better suited. Ensetes too, but they need to some in for the Winter for sure (and Sikkis are going to be border-line at best).

I've got a couple of Mekon Giant too - supposedly hardy enough to survive outside, time will tell though.

I got a goji berry from Lidl about 3 or 4 years ago. It is doing well up on the lottie, obviously hardy though not a plant of great beauty. No sign of flowers or berries. Oh well, I don't even like goji berries much.

There were 4 left at my local shop and I got the best two, I think others had got there before me though.

We went to one of our gigantic garden centers on Sunday (called Giga ... guess what that translates into ... ) they hold full sized palms INSIDE, and we bought several things. When you go out there is a table by the door which usually says Oferta (meaning an offer to you, ie, free) and as I went out I stopped and looked and there were six Musa Cavandish there, a bit sad looking I must say, so I picked one up with two new leaves sprouting and took one ... cost was 6,95€. Now, I don't NEED another one but I sure wasn't going to leave a free one there ... :heehee:

Here is Giga about 15 minutes from me ... a Dutch owned center, the largest on the Iberian Peninsular ..

You are lucky having such a great GC near you Vicky. As a proper gardener you can't turn down a bargain like that even if you don't have any more room or already have one (or two) :)

In fact, it was your duty as a caring and responsible gardener to offer it a home.

Victoria , that`s a really nice GC , I would really love to be able to grow some of them plants outdoor in UK , but at the same time it reminds me how hard is to gardening over there , expecially with the summer heating .
ps would really love to see few pictures of your garden : )
