Hi, Moved into our property 8 months ago and inherited a mound/rockery in the front garden which was planted with alpines etc. There were a few 'bald' patches so decided to add some more plants including some lobelia and such like to pretty it up. Also put some seeds in hoping they would take. Everything I have put in so far has been eaten within 3 days or so? The existing plants are OK and no seedlings have appeared. Can't see any pests or creepy crawleys on there although there always seem to be a lot of flies around the area on hot days. Help!!!!

I worked in a garden yesterday and noted that there were a few small greenish coloured catepillars on some huechera .... removed them by hand and gave the whole garden a spray of Provado Ultimate bug killer

there was no damage to the leaves of the huechera, but did not want to chance it ... I also use loads of slug pellets in that garden, as there are several Hosta's planted there

Thanks. Going to garden centre today to have a look at the general pesticides. Will have a look and see if I can find that one. Keep having a look for creepy crawleys but can't see anything. Think whatever it is may be coming out at night or early morning. A general going over with something may do the trick. Thanks for your help x

Slugs and snails leave tell-tale slime trails and don't usually eat the whole plant, only the leaves. So try a few slug pellets to start with.

It could be mice or pigeons if the whole plant has disappeared, so a general pesticide won't help.

I Agree with JWK About the Slugs. You Say It Was a Mound/Rockery ,this would be a good Damp living environment for Slugs. I would also try some Pellets as a starter and take it from there.I think the Alpines are safe from Slugs,But the Poor Wee Bedding Plants Have No Chance with Slugs If They Are Not Treated. :blue thumb: Best Of Luck.

Bought some general pesticide yesterday and some slug pellets so going to attack from both points of view. Hopefully will get the little beasties no matter what they are. Thanks for the advice x
