Let them all grow. A lot of those shoots may be flower bearing ones (most of them should be at this stage) and the ones that aren't will become new climbing shoots that will also bear flowering stems. The plants will become quite bushy as well as growing tall very quickly.

Once the leading stem reaches just past the top of the canes you can just pinch out the growing tip (about 1"). More leaders will start to grow from lower down - at junctions between the leaf and stem - and you should let these grow as they will also produce flowering stems. You'll be amazed that, once it's got going, bushy and prolific it gets :dbgrtmb:

Next month just keep an eye out for blackfly on the underside of the leaves and rub them off.

Just listening to GQT on the radio coming home from the office . It said to only lightly water beans until they flower then water like mad ! Is it best to leave them on the dry side until the flowers set

Don't let them get on the dry side but don't overwater them.

Once they're flowering water fairly heavily but only three times a week. This is better than watering lightly every day. Once they are fruiting well you should then water heavily, three times a week.

The reason for doing this is that you don't want to just keep the surface wet otherwise the roots won't be encouraged to travel downwards. If you give it lots of water the ground will get saturated deeply and the roots will follow. This makes the plants more stable, gives more area for them to feed from and much easier to survive missing a watering.

There's nothing wrong with watering heavily every day but it's just a waste of water.

      £20 please :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Beans exhibit both Geotropism and Phototropism.
