Took Willow into Taunton for a bite to eat & then the promise of a Movie.

We wanted to see Prometheus, a sort of pre-quell to Alien.

Asked for one adult & one child, it being a 15 certificate, the girl behind the counter said she couldn't let us in without some ID for Willow. I asked what sort of ID would a 15 year old have? She asked to see her driving licence, I said don't be ridiculous shes 15. How about a full british passport then.

I stated again, why would a 15 year old need to be carrying ID. I was told it's cinema policy not to let 15 year olds in without ID.

I'm afraid it was at this point that I lost my rag, realising that it would be an hours round trip to get her passport, by which time we'd be looking at waiting another hour for the next screening.

I'm feeling bad about swearing at the girl, it was the management I really wanted to swear at.

Infuriating isn't it? Surely they could see Willow was 15 it is not as if she looks young for her age. I suppose if you had asked for two adult tickets then they wouldn't have questioned her age. They were just being pedantic. So did you get in in the end?

My thoughts too Moyra, they were banking on folk dipping into their pockets for full price tickets rather than dissapointing their kids, as if £4 for a cup of coke isn't enough profit margin for them.

No, didn't get to see the film, when i've said "Tree you then" and given them the finger, my next action is to walk out of the place before getting arrested.

Whilst I understand the need for ID to be asked for in some cases, its gone completely mental nowadays. Friday, I was in Sainsburys and there was a couple going through the till in front of us buying a box of Stella lager, both of whom were clearly over the age of 30 (I would even say over 40 to be honest) - anyway, the woman asked for ID which the gentleman provided (driving licence I believe) however this was not enough as the woman wanted ID for his partner/wife also, and apparently she didn't have any ID with her.

A bit of a debate ensued, which led me to clear our stuff off the belt and move to another till - which we passed through without being asked for ID at all, despite having a few bottles of Bacardi in among our shopping.

I could have seen the strength of the shopworkers argument if neither of the two looked 'of age', but both were clearly well over the age of consent!

there was an instance about 5 years back at the local morrisons. they had a strict "ask for proof of id for sale of any alcohol at the tills" policy going on, set iirc, by the store manager.

anyways, one guy who wanted a bottle of scotch was refused at the tills because he didn't have the relevant id for purchase. it made the local press and the regional news at the time. the guy who was trying to buy the scotch was 87 years of age!!!

I've just found that you can write a recomendation on their facebook page, i'm tempted to suggest they put a big notice on their website saying 15 year olds will not be admitted without a full UK Driving License.

They let us in to see a 15 cert about a month ago with no challenge or suggestion that we needed to bring id the next time.

its getting rediculous Ziggy. i can see the need for id if its for booze or fags, or fireworks, glue, weedkiller etc.... but for a 15 filum at the flicks? its gone nuts!

i refuse to go to the flicks, as the price of a drink, hot dog, sweeties or anything bought at those places is just a major shaft. they will have their day too eventually as lots of people are realising that its just gotten too expensive.

Another similar issue is the Cigarette counter.
At Morrison's, to comply with the new rules on Cigarette displaying, they have installed new cabinets with up & over roller shutters and sliding doors with locks in the store.
I the Petrol station of the same store the cigarettes are still in the open display cabinets of yore. I assume it's because kids don't drive cars???
The Petrol Station also sells sweets, soft drinks, snacks etc., and the local kids use the air line to pump up bike tyres.

Just "recommended" them on FB with this,

Now if you lot could visit the Odeon Taunton FB page & "Like" my recommendation, they might take note before deleting it.
