      I would wait until you get blackfly growing on the tips, and then nip the tips out (which is "goodnight Vienna" to the blackfly).

      No rush - more height = more flower = more beans :)

        I was about to post a thread to ask about them, I've got three plants about 800mm high, do they need any support? by the amount of flowers on them they look like they might need help to stay standing up lol

          Yes, depending on how big your patch is, you need to tie something around the whole lot. The outside beans seem to flop, so they need to be kept upright. I've grown them for the first time this year, so i'm interested to see what happens with blackfly, no signs yet!

            Thanks, lolimac, I think I might get out there and do it today.

            Kristen2 the black fly thing! is that what I remember seeing on tv a few years back, I'm sure it was old Harry in "The Vicotian Garden" and he was pulling off the tops and just crushing the black fly, I'm sure he siad it did'nt damage the plant and was the easy way to remove them? but I could well be wrong lolz

            ==============
            EDIT, I typed "At Kristen" but it has come up with a web link! strange lolz

              I planted my broad beans in October and went off on holiday :cool: confident they would be ok while I was away for 5 months,:biggrin: then you had the driest winter while I conversely suffered the wettest Cyprus had known.:oopss: So on my return about half had died and the others were struggling, :wallbanging:
              The remainder are now showing small beans but as i had used all my bean seeds up I was not able to sow any more.
              I think i have an earlier crop on the few left and i will sow again in October this year ,I grow them in pots and loosely group them together with canes round the outer and then several differing heights of twine to keep them supported. The black fly only go for young growth so when you see them on top pinch it back to old growth and destroy the top part

              Runners are awesome, hardly any work with them and they taste just as nice raw as they do cooked and the fact that you can eat the pod as well is just a bonus to a lazy person like me.. lol
