No Jenny, what I did was wrong. I wanted to lash out against the establishment & all I did was upset a young girl.

I have to make amends for that now, bad karma.

Watch this space, I will try to make it up to her, she was only doing what she had been told & I didn't make it any easier for her. Bad Zig.

But that's what Dad's are for Ziggy. To show all sides of you. None of us is perfect. I'm sure she'll be fine.
Life is made up of good and bad karma.
Just give her a long hug xxxx,

Ah, I see. No. I joined/subscribed to/liked the page (whatever the FB term is) but I'm not actively involved in their endeavour. I was going to join them, but they made it clear there is a clique when they were extremely and deliberately cryptic when advertising the venue for the next meeting.

Isn't it amazing just how diverse the responses to a single "letting off steam" comment can be.
50 responses covering a dozen or more topics and all seemingly logical.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I agree with your sentiment and also agree that having a go at the poor girl wasn't really the way to go. It made her feel bad and yourself feel bad - but it's difficult to keep calm in those sort of situations.

Over the years I've managed to develop my own ways of dealing with these sort of situations. I remain calm, put on a posher voice and use long and obscure words :heehee:. It's amazing how it gets results :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Having said that, I had a little happenstance :heehee: the other day when buying petrol. I needed some more petrol for my mower as well as the car to took along my trusty petrol can. I got a little upset when the station manager cast aspersions on my can!

I had filled up the car and then went to fill the can - but the pump wouldn't work. So I pressed the 'call' button, didn't speak when they answered the call (they could see quite clearly what I was trying to do - and I pointed at the can and pump) and pressed the button again.

The manager came out and I said that I wanted to fill the can. He said "That's not an authorised petrol can" (it's an old fashioned metal can). I put a look of shock and surprise on my face, said "Surely you jest" and asked him to read the wording impressed in the metal - which read, 'Petroleum Spirit Only'.

"Oh!!" he said, looking a bit put out. He thought for a moment and then said "I don't think that can is fit to take petrol, and is not safe". (It wasn't in pristine condition as a lot of the outer, paint, coating had come away in the last 70 years.)

"And, pray tell, what may be amiss with it?" (By then there were a few other customers standing around giggling.)

A bit flustered, he ran his finger around the bottom seam of the can and said "It's rusty and may leak". (The metal did look a brown colour but wasn't rusty.)

I looked pointedly at his clean finger that had been run around the seam and said "It's most definitely not rusty. Please have a look at the interior of the vessel and you will see an inch of petroleum in there. None of that is exuding from the seam, is it?"

Grumpily, "I'll let you fill up this time but you need to buy a new can".

Note to self: Wirebrush my old red can and paint it green. :ideaIPB:

I know exactly what you mean. There's never any need to throw nasturtiums at anyone's can.

One of the lads on my fishy forum had a similar problem with a jerrycan, he'd half filled it when they switched the pump off, telling him he'd have to pay a fiver for a plastic can if he wanted to buy the petrol.

After a few similar exchanges he said he didn't want the petrol anymore & could they please remove it from his can.

That totally flummoxed them & in the end they gave him the couple of quids worth of petrol because they didn't know what to do.

Some forums will jump on you as soon as you go off topic, but the way I see it, we're having a chat the same as you would in the pub.

I do move things if they are obviously getting in the way of a specific thread, but otherwise, we're only human. Well, most of us:snork:

To me the whole concept of asking for ID is part of the climate we live in -if you can measure it or prove it it's OK, otherwise someone has to make a decision and that requires training, judgement and maturity and most of all willingness to take responsibility. Companies don't want that so they require their employees to perform like machines instead of human beings.

It's time some common sense was brought back to everyday living. When activities like shopping and buying a service constantly ask you to prove yourself, it almost makes it feel like a criminal offence to ask for a ticket to go into a cinema for a perfectly legitimate activity.

Or when a child falls over in the playground and cannot seek or be given the compassion of a teacher. All the child wants is a caring hug to "make it better".
So many good things we have allowed to slip through our fingers. Barren wastelands are the future for many of our young.....

That is the one area where my daughter's school is really good - they are not scared of being that wee bit more tactile when it is needed, and are pretty reasonable at maintaining discipline. At the recent sports day, they started off by telling all the parents that if their child was needing the loo, or had any other problem, that the parents were to leave it to the school staff and not interfere; basically saying that you left them in our care at the start of the morning, and they are still in our care despite the fact that you are here.

And to be fair, they did ferry a few of the younger ones off the sports field to go to the loo, and made sure that there were drink stops and all sorts.

Just a shame that they aren't as impressive in some other areas...........

That is you and where you live

Here, there are some parents, who if they saw a teacher put their hand on a childs arm and position him/her for a photo or start of a race, would put in for assault
(Co m p e ns at ion £££££££s RULES ) So sad but true

For forty years, (my kids) I have attended most of the schools activities and taken photos, of everyone, as and when
The past ten years I have had to ask for permission, and for the past three years get written permission from the Council
                        A few objections

This year is the 50th anniversary,
Council ask do you have any photos, of the schools history
                        Which I willingly supplied
I even have requests from those who objected,"Can you give us a picture of oor Jimmy"
Though I expect it is just so they can embarass oor Jimmy, with a pic in the newspaper of Guess who is 40 today stuff

Dangerous people out there when given a sniff of money
