You need to take out those branches at the bottom - there should just be the one, single, central stem - carrying the Leaves and the Flower trusses.

      Triffid,
all I was seeing was a sturdy, fine, healthy looking plant. Thank goodness for our wise owl's sound words. I can now see and understand EXACTLY what Kristen means.
      Good old GC!!

Viola!! The maskotkas today - one or two are yellowing a little. The 3 in a pot are more advanced than their brothers behind in the window box.

Mine seem to have stalled a bit, goodness only knows why. Don't think its a temperature issue, as it was surprisingly warm in the polytunnel when I looked in earlier on, despite the fact that it is quite chilly here today (and now raining).

How's about if you gently put that bird box next to them ?Then the bees have got something to do whilst the one in charge makes up his mind whether or not to go and tell the QUEEN.

Brandywine in the blowaway were cracking on when the sun was out but seem to have come to a halt this week. Cant say I blame them - its been distinctly chilly.
