I`ve got a new zeland blue giant in my garden wich should reach up to 8 foot in one season (that may will uppen in a different country) , but at the moment it`s only 2 feet and started to flower already .....is it normal ? or is just the cold weather that make it flower before die ? should I leave it or cut it down?
    thank you so muck .

    Cant see the flower Sal?
It looks healthy, if it has a flower forming I think I would just nip it out, it might branch but you can reduce that to one stem if you like.

I can see it now Sal.
I think I would pot it back up and put it in the greenhouse for a few weeks, I'm thinking the roots have at best stopped growing, or at worst, rotting.

Forecast is not good down here for at least another couple of weeks, so I would warm it up and dry it out just a little until new roots start to form.

Oh and cut the flower off.:blue thumb:

noooooo.....I know how delicate the roots are with water , already lost one with roots rotting , the spring it must be the worst ever seen in my life , I`ve tryed my best to start lots of seeds at the end of february just to give them a better start and most of them are still at the same point they where at the end of March .....unbelivable.
but thank you so much Pete .

The old way was not to plant out anything frost tender until late May or even June.

It sounds late, but its commonsence gardening for where we live.

I looked at my Max/Min theremometer on the wall today, I've not bothered to reset it for a week.
Max was 80F Min 40F, add to that some pretty awful wind and rain and you can see its a lot for a young tender plant to put up with.

Castor oils grow like the clappers once they get established, so if you can get it back all well and good, but its not too late to sow a few more seed.

I repotted a plumbago, that had been outside for a month, the other day, its gone back into the greenhouse now, the pot was just saturated and I'm sure combined with the poor temps. the roots will just stall outside.
Once the top growth goes limp the roots probably stopped days ago, its delayed reaction.

I've not grown them for a few years, and there are some good new ones now, but I always liked Zanzibarensis, big bronze leaves and quite a large plant.

I've grown Ricinus New Zealand Purple from seed this year, reading this thread made me realise they need more care. So I moved them back into the greenhouse. Mine weren't growing any new leaves since I moved them outside, but they have made some good root growth and really need re-potting.

I bought 2 Ricinus Carmencita seedlings off ebay a few months back ... grew them on my bathroom windowsill ... they grew like crazy and the roots were even growing out of the bottom of the pots

planted them out in a garden approx 5 weeks ago ... they have stopped growing, but are looking healthy

I planted 2 more Ricinus Carmencita in that garden earlier this week (bought them from a plant stall on sat)

hoping for some good sun to get these going (These are a first for me)

the musa basjoo that I planted are only starting to wake up now ...
