Thought I would update with a picture of the 14½ inch cue that I harvested yesterday:

Yes they were only 50p each plug, I'll certainly do the same next year, even buying plants at 90p each is a good deal really - I only have 4 plants which is still way too many for our little family. I planted mine last weekend:

Looks like we are off and running!

      Another three on their way!

Mrs C tried some of the first one this morning, and reports that it is not as watery as 'shop bought' and is crunchier with a good taste - so growing your own definitely makes a difference.

It has struck again! This one went over during the night, but all the others are OK. I tipped it out the pot and the stem was healthy and it had a decent root system.

If you only want Half-a-Cue cut the bottom half off, just leave the top half on the plant, and harvest that later (the cut surface will have healed, and you can trim that bit off). It will be fresher than a half-a-cue left in the fridge :blue thumb:

          Good tip Kristen, thanks :)

Knowing my two, the one that is in there won't last long - Little C has already had a chunk off it too - its great to see it being appreciated though!

          B'tards! your getting fruit already?

Off out to the greenhouse to give my specimens a kick up the butt! Barely 18" at the mo :(

I personally HATE cucumber but the other half and daughter do, so I'm not that concerned, I need to produce something though!

In fairness Vince, my cucumber plants have been in the house since day one - my whole garden plans have stalled whilst I wait for new fences; once they are done, I will be able to get all my seedlings out of the polytunnel, finally making room for the cucumber plants - until then, they are stuck at the back of my living room by the French doors, and apparently loving it.

I only had 1 cucumber. This morning it was about 12" high with several sets of leaves and the head looked healthy.
Mid afternoon I went to the greenhouse and it was laying down. The point at which the stalk meets the soil looked rotted.
          I am NOT happy.:thud:

That's a shame gcc, we need some decent weather to perk them up. Maybe you can still get a replacement plant from a garden centre.

All my remaining F1 cucumbers died over the last week, even with overnight temps of 11.5 deg C, leaving me with only 8 Marketmores, the variety I normally grow.

I evicted mine from the back of the living room into the polytunnel on Saturday - had no choice, it was getting mad in here with plants, and they were all clinging onto each others canes so the longer I left them, the worse it was going to get; anyway, the drop in temps put me into abject panic, and I ended up running an extension lead out to the polytunnel and sticking an oil filled rad in there to warm things up.

I am definitely going soft, heating a plastic tent in the garden!
