£4 a piece for the scaffold boards, black DPM a freebie, soil re-cycled from decaying raised beds.

Kelsaes doing very well considering from Naff seed, others in the photo are Long Red Florence

My onion bed got flooded in that cold/wet spell and I had to dig drainage ditches around it and another to take the water away. It really messed up all the hard work I put in sowing seeds early and bringing plants on under lights. So it'll be raised beds for my onions next year.

I've heard a lot about recycled/old scaffold boards, where would one go, what to look for in Yellow Pages etc,
Any ideas for Bristol / N.Somerset area anyone ?

Ah yes but,, I thort there was a convention or trade agreement or H&S that prevented them from selling on unsafe boards and that they had to be traded thro' another. Maybe urban myth ?
Anyway, I dont know any scaffolders !

 

Ptarmigan if you have a drive round your local scaffold companys tell them what your after ie old scaffold boards to make raised beds they are happy to sell you them thats all I did & found one place that had new boards that had'nt passed the stress tests they sold me 12 at £6 each (new boards) & they gave me 3 broken ones buck shee to use for the ends.
