bought a ricinus (castor oil plant) today from a farmers market ... he only had 1 left and was £3 ... label says Carmetica Bright red

large leaves and stands over 2 1/2 feet tall with a thick stem ... pot is a bit small though as the roots are protruding from the bottom

I will plant it out in a garden in a few weeks time after I have sorted the weeds and beds

only problem is that it is already starting to flower

do I clip off the flower bud, or just leave it?

Got all these pots for free a few sundays ago. Outside a nearby house was a huge amount of terracotta pots and a sign saying help yourself. Grabbed my wheelbarrow and returned with around 10 pots, some of them look quite old. Also 2 jugs too.

my local homebase has a good selection and good quality plants at the mo.

i'll be going back tomorrow to buy a few more callas and maybe a washy. (1/2 price at the mo too!!)

al n - my local Homebase had Washingtonia robusta at half price too - though they weren't as big as the ones in your picture. Actually it was reduced from £30 to £12 - so I had to have one. I have never grown it before.
