Persanlly I Would Prefer Your Pond Bucket and A Little One!!!

The Forces That Be I Built this out of Bordum it took 14 hours to build the outer skin it was 3 or 4 corses Higher when it was a Well and about 5 hours to build the inside out of block pavers on edge But The Folly Was an After Thought and it Spoilt our View ile try again with the pics

Iv Got a Pree Formed Pool to insert behind the Folly I want to Build a Water Wheel to run in to in the near future :dbgrtmb: 002.JPG 051.JPG

You're a marvel, Nick, most people would think about it but not do it.! I might be able to do it in 14 days, but not in 14 hours, and even then it would be lopsided and probably not quite a circle. I like the alternate bricks on the rim protruding and being of a different colour. As I said before, you're one on those rare people who can interpret the idea in their head through their hands into something that makes people go :wow:

Hi Catz , I like yours and Bilbos planting plans in such a small area , very effective. I was leaving my pond until the GKs were old enough not to fall in it , but this would be ideal :dbgrtmb: What plants have you got in there ? Does the water keep oxygenated and clear with them ? Will the plants survive over winter ? Enough questions for now

I have a mini water lily, a water forget me not and a water iris. The forget me not is in a basket and the others are planted in the pot. I also have some oxygenating weed in there. It does get blanket weed but there's some stuff you mix with water and pour it in and gets rid of it safely. Mostly it stays clear. I specifically got plants that are suitable for small pools. I over winter the plants in the bottom of our big pond but am sure they could be kept somewhere else as long as they didn't freeze solid.

Hi Harry, I've got 2 Pygmy water lilies (cause I'm greedy and I got them for nothing :snork:) , a smaller variety of iris, pickerel weed, frogbit, water chestnut, milfoil and canadian pondweed. The right selection of plants will ensure sufficient surface coverage to help stop green water (algae) and keep the water oxygenated. All the plants should survive the winter..:blue thumb:

Thanks for the plant ID's Catz and Bilbo :blue thumb:
I found this site while Googling container water gardens . They show at Chelsea and Harrogate - so they will be expensive ! But two thirds of the way down the page are 8 planting plans with full list of plants in each :dbgrtmb:
                http://www.watersidenursery.co.uk/IS/containerponds.aspx
Just mentioned the container water garden to Mrs H , who has given it the royal frown  We run this household democratically , I get one vote and she gets 99 votes :snork:
I'll ask here again when she has had a couple of glasses of wine :blue thumb:

The large plastic tub/barrel I bought for mine cost me £4.99 from a local bargain shop......:)

The traditional oak barrels do look better but on a budget the one I got is ideal :dbgrtmb:

About 3 weeks later and my "bucket" is coming on nicely, the lilies are growing well and the frogbit is too....we've also had some early visitors in the way of a few damsel flies :blue thumb: The only problem I had was from woodpigeons landing on the rim and nipping at the fresh new growth so I have temporarily put some string round it until its established...
