Have you started using the Lumix FX45 yet? If still reading the instruction booklet, just set the dial to the red iA setting (intelligent auto) and start shooting jpegs.

    Hi Scrungee,
I went out and took 3 piccies on the red iA setting. I uploaded them here but they and my written reply have not materialised:dunno:

What did they look like when viewed on your computer prior to 'uploading'? (I leave my Lumix on the iA setting most of the time for default quick shots - it's supposed to work well on all of their cameras)

the first 2 of the geranium( in close up) - were in sharp focus but the longer shot of a clematis up the side of the house looked a bit "fuzzy?".

Are you shooting in jpeg or RAW mode? (or both simultaneously)

    Ditto mate.

Had an Olympus FE300 and now use the Lumix TZ20.

2 macro setting with one being a digital zoom macro.

Example of the digi macro zoom. Taken from 3 ft away:

      Andy,
I've just zoomed 200% on my PC and the bee's bum is still in excellent focus and I was surrounded by that fabulous pink and felt as though I was in there with the bee!

To be honest Jenny, the quality has been reduced by the site a little. The original is better.

Also bearing in mind, mines is only a pocket camera so yours should be capable of much better.

I didn`t tweek the settings too much on mine except to make sure in the video record setting, I set it up for Mpeg. AVCHD is best for converting or watching on a HD telly. Mpeg is good enough for watching on the laptop.

I love taking night time pics and once I got the hang of the settings, I took this one from my hotel window in Dubai which I`m quite proud of.

That's a fascinating shot Andy. I have so much to learn and I am awaiting the set up of a Camera Group in our local U3A.

        Oooooh Scrungee!!
Not sure what the setting was - but got this little cheeky chap this afternoon. The detail is awesome. I'm not sure whether he is a young thrush or a young blackie?

Looks like a young turdus merula to me, rather than a turdus philomelos or even turdus turdus. Cor, I didn't get a single treetreetree for posting those names!

Great pic Jenny. I`d reckon it was the blackbird.

If you are out and about, to quickly change the settings to suit your surroundings, I suggest you jog the dial selector on to "SCN" and choose one of the preset setting, of which there should be many. A bit of trial and error to find the ideal as some of them are pretty much the same.

Generally though, as long as you have the "motion deblur" (assuming yours has this feature) has been set to 'ON' in the iA settings, that should see you through most daytime scenarios.
