It looks to me as if the movie is made to sell some Abba album which, if you like IKEA, you may find appealing...

I enjoy the big green bitter olives ... never used to when I was younger, but then again, neither did I enjoy whisky (I thought it tasted like petrol)

Optimist me: I think Britain will be fine by comparison to most countries. As dodgy as our politicians are, so far we're not in the Euro, and we seem to be surviving. Britain has, I believe, been through much tougher times than now, and in most of our lifetimes too.

Pessimist me: When things change in the world, they tend to do so very quickly. Ok there might be years worth of murmurings at the top level, but things tend to happen quite suddenly for ordinary folk. I wonder how many Greek people genuinely thought they'd be homeless, starving, skint, and contemplating suicide 2 years ago.

The thing is, the media never helps anyone. By constantly reporting how desperate people are in Greece, I'm not sure it can help their tourist trade, which is probably the only thing they have left to sell. Desperate people do desperate things, and I for one don't want to spend any time in a place where I might be perceived to have much more money than the starving skint people around me. and therefore might be considered a target.

Our Dave W flew to Greece yesterday as did our roders to Crete ... I wonder if they will have anything to say when they return.

Portugal is still holding its own ... and we personally are not suffering.

The NHS here is now charging for doctor visits, I think 3 Euros .. :love30:

Thats not bad Victoria, its £2 just to get into the council tip here. The hedgrows are alive with the sight of fridges and matresses.

Word on the street says that most of Europe want the UK out. That'll mean a lot of brits will have to come home, but it'll mean an awful lot more folk will have to leave Britain as they will have no right of abode here.

That's an interesting point Ziggy. I m not sure it is only the europeans that the brits wont out.............I think I am happy with the original europeans but it has expanded beyond that now and of course we have asians pretending to be east europeans and how do you decide whether they are or not.

they will not kick anyone out of any country ... so if a British citizen has moved and set up home/business in Spain or Italy or Greece etc they will be allowed to remain living there as before ... and vice versa

but if one or more of those countries are booted out of the EU, they may say that from next year, new rules apply for new people who wish to emmigrate

many say that countries such as Greece etc ... will have their own currency, but still be part of the EU

Electrical appliances are not supposed to be put at 'lixo' (rubbish) collection areas as when you buy a new one the shop is obliged to take the old one away free of charge. You do however see the occasional one and certainly things like mattresses, old furniture, etc, but the councils have people who come around once a week and collect these things, also collection of green, ie, garden waste ... what they do with them is anybody's guess? ... sell, burn ... ??? Most things don't last a few hours or days ... it's a 'free for all' area ... and we ourselves have both deposited and collected things ... :WINK1:

Cant see us realisticly ever getting out of the grip of the EC, we are far too enmeshed in this very cumbersome and overpowering regime.

I'm tending to think Germany will yet manage to rule Europe, but by peaceful means this time,( well relativity peaceful anyway).

I'm very glad we did not join the Euro, and I think we can thank Gordon for this?
We have a lot to blame him for, but I guess no one is all bad.

The Euro was a stupid idea dreamed up in the minds of a bunch of European megalomaniacs that need to be stopped.
But then what do I know?

I know this much, there aint much work about.

I think a very dangerous thing that can happen in times of strife, is when different groups starting blaming each other and treating each other with suspicion. I'm not well up on my history but I belief mr hitler played on the frustrations and paranoia of the people of Germany while they were in troubled times.

I really, really hope that if the Europeans want the Brits out, and in response we expect the same, then I hope it doesn't go the way that history has too often demonstrated that it can.

Still, I guess its a good job Britain has been keeping a secret stash under the mattress. What with us being completely skint, yet still ordering in some new impressive military hardware (so the news said recently), and still having some secret stash left over to inject £140 billion into the economy, as announced today.
