You can tell when you've had enough of gardening for the day when you get more interested in the cattle grazing in the adjoining field. There's always one that seems friendlier than the rest and this year it's 586.

 

What poofy deodorant were you wearing sweetie?

 

This one - the cattle loved it (or it might have been my 'couch grass' that attracted them?)

A few pictures of the plants and wildflowers we encountered on our recent holiday travelling around the Canadian Rockies.

Walking along a trail on Sulphur Mountain near Banff, I was surprised to find Potentilla growing wild at an altitude of about 8,000 feet, I never realised this garden favourite was such a tough little thing.


Lake Louise in Banff National Park provided a superb backdrop for this willowherb I spotted growing next to a path used by hundreds of tourists every day.


Further along the same path, a small wildflower meadow provided another great photo opportunity.


Stopping to take a break as we drove along the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper, I found this colourful little plant growing at the water's edge along the Saskatchewan River. Apparently it's commonly known as the Indian Paintbrush.


One of the highlights of the trip was a hike to the top of Sulphur Ridge Mountain in Jasper National Park. As we climbed the trail in the cool mid-morning air, droplets of dew still hung on the trees and wildflowers.
This is real mountain dew, (not the stuff that comes in a can).


Another forest trail, this time in the South Chilcoton Mountains, along the shores of Lake Tyaughton. Among the many wild plants growing thereabouts were these berry bearing bushes, can't remember what this one was called though.

Fantastic scenery I thought the Grand Tetons in Wyoming were stunning but these are even more impressive.
The Indian Paintbrush is known as a prairie plant, strange to see it growing by water.

One more batch from our Canada holiday, then I promise I'll stop banging on about it. (Well, probably).

During the trip we stayed for a couple of nights in a B & B at a remote location in Wells Gray Provincial Park, near Clearwater in British Columbia.
We had a separate log cabin all to ourselves, surrounded by forested hills and looking out across a broad, flat bottomed valley which filled with mist at night as the temperature dropped.
Waking up early on our first morning there, I looked out at first light and was captivated by the scene before me.
As the mist hung low in the valley, and droplets of dew glistened on every leaf and branch, I ventured out into the chill, silent dawn air with my camera.
At that moment, it was quite simply the most beautiful, captivating place I think I have ever seen.
Allow me to share the moment with you, I hope these photos manage to convey some sense of that memorable dawn.

 

Have to admit Trunky Banff is a beautiful place with stunning views. I stayed in Calgary and drove to Banff virtually everyday
